Jealousy Murder And Lies Chapter 3 - Swiss Adventure Leads To Mountain Nightmare Scenario

-

Their afternoon fun and frolics were shortly interrupted by the sound of the oncoming helicopter.

it was now only minutes away from it's impending arrival as both of them stopped immediately in their tracks.

They both glanced out of the car rear window which had now become very steamy with their sexual activities prior to this unwarranted intrusion.

Blake stepped out of the vehicle and placed his trousers back on and waved to the pilot as it began to make his descent toward the landing pad.

It was now time the run away couple to start their new life together. Both of them quickly grabbed a few small personal items which they brought with them and then got on board the helicopter. It was at this point that the pilot made a rather amusing remark.

"Have you got your pilots licence?, you're flying a little low Blake"?, he joked.

Clare chuckled as she noticed that Blake in his rush to get dressed had forgot to zip up his trousers and was feeling a little embarrassed at this point. He then exclaimed "yeah but I'm not flying this thing mate, you are".

They were soon air bound and on their way to Switzerland which was a short journey of no more than a couple of hours away.

There were no luxuries aboard the helicopter as Blake had hoped, but this was of no great concern to either of them.

Soon both of them could start thinking about the prospects of living together in a more luxurious and safe environment than what they had been used to back home.

Blake had arranged for a cabin to be made available in the short term it was situated just below Mount Stanserhorn which was a beautiful mountain overlooking Lake Luzern,

if one was a tourist one would have to travel part of the journey by a small steam train which would take you a third of the way up the mountain and then continue via cable car for the remaining few thousand metres or so.

The advantages of having a helicopter were immense, one could fetch one's own supplies without the inconvenience of shopping.

Although the weather was now more mild it still got cold on a night and a roaring fire was needed to keep out the chill.

The cabin would have generous provisions of Glogg (mulled wine) and smoked herring which were provided by a local farmer friend who also offered samples of his local cheeses.

All these thoughts of food were making Blake hungry as he was pontificating about spending his first night with Clare.

His dreaming mind was now focused on how they would snuggle up together around a large rug in front of the fire and make mad passionate love to each other or so he thought.

His day dreaming was cut short as helicopter began it's descent over the mountains above the city of Geneva.

He pointed out to Clare where Lake Leman was and laughed at the little wooden chalets perched on the hillside.

Don't they look like little doll houses Clare? I'd love to take one home with me,maybe it might play a pretty tune.",he laughed.

"Yes it's a magical land Switzerland but if you think this is pretty go and visit Neuschwannsteinschloss in Bavaria, that is an awesome castle built by King Ludwig who was a mad man obsessed with his kingdom he drowned in the lake so I believe.",she said.

Blake had heard about the story and also remarked that he had already visited it in his youth along with Lindenhof and Hohenschwangau which were two other nearby castles.

At last they arrived at their location, there was a bright beam of light which helped the pilot navigate his surroundings and a little small tarmac pad where he could park the helicopter.

Their new home was magical it had window flower boxes on every level, edelweiss growing in the garden area and a small stacking area where wooden logs could be used for firewood.

The view was amazing, there was still some traces of snow on top which was visible to the naked eye.

In the far distance one could just make out a panoramic viewing area specifically designed for tourists with a rotating restaurant it was common knowledge that this was one the main attractions from a tourist perspective.

The happy couple waved farewell to their pilot and started to make their new life even more comfortable, although the living room area was very basic.

The actual building was a historic 13th century old barn originally and had been renovated to create living quarters, there was running water and all the floors had smooth wooden panelling.

The two of them had become somewhat tired from their flight and decided to enjoy a shower together to freshen up.

Later they would sit outside and enjoy the warm air and pleasant fragrances of the beautiful location.

"What's for tea Clare"?,asked Blake as he was drying himself off from the shower,"I think raclette or fondue would be a good idea, there's loads of cheese in the fridge yeah and also we could have chocolate later mmm!!!", he said.

The evening was drawing in and tomorrow they decided to go up on the cable car like the regular tourist in fact tomorrow would be a complete exploration.

Blake had also got a few other trips lined up in the future but he was keeping tight lipped about them.

He had planned a weekend away at the Ice Hotel near Umea in Sweden later on in the year, when he would visit his friend Hannah,a young Christian lady who also went to university in the town.

Blake was a real ambitious traveller who liked variety in his life  and hated the idea of stagnating, he always had something or someone on his agenda.

He liked to compare himself to like James bond but without the girls, the fast cars and his fast pace of life perhaps.

Clare began to prepare supper as Blake stepped out in to the night air and lit up one of his favourite Parisienne cigarettes.

He loved these Class cigarettes although his favourite brand were in fact Chesterfields, but he would have to go to al local shop to buy these as they were Switzerland number 1 cigarette and could only be found in duty free shops for the tourist.

He picked up a local edition of the Luzern zeitungen (newspaper) and then he noticed to his surprise that there was a short paragraph written about Clare and the case of the murdered woman back in London.

The police were now issuing a warrant for her arrest and all ports and airports had been informed that she was wanted by Interpol as she had jumped bail.

Why this had made Swiss news was beyond him but never the less he had to inform Clare of this breaking news and alert her to the possibility of not being seen in public.

She shrugged off the story and said "what do you want me to do dress up like a man or maybe I'll dig out a huge pair of sunglasses and wear a sombrero hat.".

The two of them decided to move on from this new development and settle down to their evening meal and were determined to enjoy the remaining part of the evening before the sun went down.

It was soon apparent that both of them were more tired than they had realised and fell asleep together in front of the fire.

The following morning the two lovers were awoken by the bright sunshine which had enveloped the room.

They had both managed to stagger their way in to bed but had forgotten to draw the curtains so it was now around 0400 and they were feeling a little weary in the early morning hours.

Blake got up and made himself a cup of coffee whilst Clare was fast asleep by this time and she had only awoken for a few seconds.

Eventually it was time to leave their dwelling and make their way to the cable car ride which Blake had promised Clare the previous day.

It was only a short 10 minute walk to the terminal building where they would buy their tickets for the first part of the journey.

It was a comical little train that they took for the first point of their journey, this train service had been running for almost 100 years ferrying tourists up and down the Stanserhorn mountain.

"It reminds me of that railway train in Blaenau Ffestiniog North Wales or something along those lines, I can never remember how you say it but it exists near a slate mine in the middle of north Wales" exclaimed Clare.

The journey time was a little under half an hour and the guard aboard the train seem to rabbit on in a language which seemed far removed from Blake's high German which he had learnt at school.

Eventually they arrived at the middle part of their journey and got aboard the cable car which could provide room for up to 26 people on a given day.

This morning there were only 10 souls on board besides them so 12 in total, two families of 4 and twin babies sitting in their prams.

The journey began well with spectacular views all around, the Japanese couple were taking photos at every interval which was typical of a stereotype Japanese tourist, wherever they went their camera went too.

After half distance Blake remarked that the car was slowing down and that he felt uneasy as it was beginning to sway a little yet there was no evidence of a cross wind.

Then suddenly there was a radio call to the guard on board, apparently an electrical discharge had occurred which would mean that the cable car might be prevented from completing it's journey.

All of a sudden they stopped in mid stream, there was nothing they could do and they were going nowhere.

Everyone looked at each other with horror etched across their faces, they were completely in the hands of fate and the Swiss engineer.

Blake spoke quietly whispering to Clare "did you ever see that film "Hanging By A Thread "?.

She nodded and then spoke softly "were there any survivors?" Blake shook his head and by now  both of them were wondering what fate lay in stall for them.

It was now a full hour since their journey had been halted and no news was coming from the radio as it had been knocked out by the short circuiting caused by the electric power loss to the cable car.

One man asked the guard how long they could survive if they stayed in the same position, would the car collapse under the strain of all the peoples weight?.

It was apparent that after only 3 hours structural damage would occur and this then would lead to the wire supports breaking and inevitable death for all.

From what Blake could understand in his basic German the guard had been informed them that the radio had cut out, they were trying to restore power from their end and if not would try to get help from a mountain helicopter rescue team if all else failed.

Then Blake thought what if he could call his pilot associate maybe he could help, there was only one problem, although he had remembered to bring his mobile phone there was no signal and his battery was low.

They had now been up there for almost 2 and a half hours when suddenly there was this horrible crunching sound it was the metal supports they were about to give way.

It was apparent that time was running out for all concerned then there was only one line holding the car in place,if that went then they would all perish beyond the so many thousands of metres of hillside beneath them.

Blake grabbed hold of the guard and asked him to do something, by now all aboard were almost awaiting their fate and accepting that they would never see their families again.

Then out of nowhere a helicopter appeared, it was the mountain rescue team a loud speaker talking in English bellowed out.

"Please make your way to the top of the cable car,you can open the hatch from inside of the car and we will send you a support harness to help you escape".

One by one they made they made their way to the opening of the top part of the cable car,the guard was helping out with the lifting and aiding the people to safety.

It was obvious that maybe he might have to stay behind unless someone came aboard from the rescue team.

Nearly half of the people had now been saved and were aboard the helicopter, it could carry up to 12 people at any one time.

Now there was only ourselves and the guard left, Blake was about to step on to the top of the car and reach the safety harness when again there was the noise of crunching and wrenching of metal.

Then in an awful split second just as Blake was about to find safety he was holding Clare's hand and the  cable car finally gave up it's attempt to stay with the rest of the structure.

It ripped through the mountain air making it's way at an alarming speed smashing in to the hillside violently and taking the life of the guard,by which time Clare had lost her grip of Blake's hand.

She screamed and then she was gone with the blink of an eye, she had met her fate and he would never see her again.

"No!!!!" he cried in absolute despair but by now the helicopter was on it's way to Luzern city hospital with all it's passengers safely on board.

After arriving at the hospital he was only concerned with getting her body back to England and planning her funeral.

Blake would indeed be accountable for her escape and have to face the music of the British police.

He might indeed be charged with aiding and abetting a criminal, but this was the least of his concerns as he made attempts to retrieve her body and fly back to London.

It would take a few days before the planning and death certificate would be released by the Swiss authorities, the day had arrived when he was able to see her laid in a morgue to make the identification and say goodbye to her for the last time prior to her funeral.

Her face was battered and blood stained and there were cuts all over her body and she really was unrecognisable from the beautiful woman he had come to love and worship.

The body would be flown back tonight and the police had been informed in England of the flight carrying the two passengers.

It was understood that he would be allowed to see his family on arrival and then be questioned once the formalities of their check in were completed.

The journey from Zurich to the airport went without a hitch and as the plane landed safely at Heathrow Airport.

Blake spotted the police cordon surrounding the entrance to the airport,he feared for his liberty but would face the consequences of his actions.

As he stepped on to the tarmac a police officer read him his rights and he was handcuffed away to an awaiting police car.

He would be detained at a local police station until such time as where he would be charged with escaping a felony.

His life would change forever after this experience and although he attended Clare's funeral with close friends and family,he was charged with aiding her escape and perverting the cause of justice and sent for trial at a later date.

He would receive 2 years maximum if found guilty or perhaps a suspended sentence, either way it would be a relief to get this ordeal out of the way and move on with his life.

The date soon arrived for his court hearing and there was a surprise witness who he would cross swords with on entering the court room.

It was Clare's husband Rob, there was an altercation as both men were embroiled in a fight.

"You bastard" exclaimed Rob, as punches were thrown and the police had to step in to separate the two of them.

Blood poured from a gash to Blake's head, it was indeed obvious that he needed hospital treatment and an ambulance was summoned.

Unfortunately he would never stand trial as he died on board that ambulance during that fateful day, he had lost a considerable amount of blood and had never regained consciousness.

It was indeed the end of the affair and brought the chapter to this terrible ordeal to a permanent closure.
