CHAPTER --

With the chittering screeching growls of the Ghoul beneath him silenced Ezekiel found his thoughts turned to his family. The Leopards muscles twitched as the animal raised its head and scented the air.  With a sloppy smack of its bloody jaws the leopard turned and went to move in a northern direction.

But as the Leopard went to take a few steps forward it snarled and with a painful whine the Leopard lifted its back leg off the ground. Instantly knowing that it would be best for him to take back control now, Ezekiel traded places with the Leopard.

Consciousness switched, his eyes stopped glowing and a moment later Ezekiel was leaning up against a tree. He panted as a numb pain crawled up and down his right leg. Ezekiel tried to ignore the internal radar of his Leopard that told him that he had to rest. The Leopard knew he had to calm down and give his body time to heal his injury, but Ezekiel was anxious to reunite with his family.

And unwilling to waste any more time Ezekiel tried to force himself to put at least a little bit of his weight down on to his legs only to hiss in pain and fall back onto the tree behind him for support.

It only took him seconds to realize that the Ghouls attacks had broken his femur as he struggled to hold onto the slim tree behind him.

"Shit!" Ezekiel cursed to himself as he thunked his fist back on the tree. He closed his eyes and willed his tired body to hurry, he willed his leopard to heal him but he was a little surprised when the energy he felt flowing through him a moment later wasn’t his own, but someone else’s.

Warmth flooded his system seemingly at his request. The warmth flowed up to his shoulder gathering in the deep bloody cuts there and then traveled down past his groin to his throbbing leg settling across his bone making him flinch slightly.

At first Ezekiel was completely stumped as too what was happening to him, or even what the warmth he felt was. Until he realized that what he was feeling was pure energy rushing across his wounds. Brandon’s energy. Was this what Brandon felt inside of him all the time? Warmth and energy? Ezekiel knew that Brandon’s blood was in his systemEzekiel was so shocked by what he was feeling that he snarled in agony when he felt his bones suddenly snap back together.

Instantly he clutched at his thigh only to realize that the pain was fading away....fast.

The numb throb fled and for the first time since the fighting had begun Ezekiel felt strength return to him instead of taken. He had been completely healed.

Disbelieving Ezekiel took his weight off of the tree and hesitating only for one second he put his leg down on the ground. When he didn’t fell any pain at all all he could do was laugh. Reaching back to his shoulder a moment later, he expected to feel the stinging burn of lacerated flesh under his palm, but all he felt was torn blood y cloth and smooth skin. The cuts that he had sustained across his back were gone, vanished as through the had never existed in the first place.

Ezekiel closed his eyes as he took his hand off of his shoulder. "Oh my god." He breathed to himself. For the first time he felt like he was getting a handle on the whole situation. The wounds that he had sustained should have taken him almost an entire day of rest to recover from so completely and yet with on a few drop of Brandon’s blood in in. His power in his veins. And Ezekiel was almost as fresh as he had been that morning.

What kind of power was this he felt in him even now, warming him, healing him, flowing across him as though it was a sentient being all its own.

Was this what Hovel and Jacob had attacked his clan for? What they had tried to kill them for? And where did Brandon lie in all of this? What was he that he carried THIS power inside of him? And what else could he do?

Ezekiel exhaled and opened his eyes a moment later still feeling the warmth of Brandon’s power snaking across his body.

He was expecting there to be a twinge of pain or even a soreness in his muscles when he went to grab his fallen sword, but he didn’t feel any pain from his leg that only moments ago had been broken in two.
