Nolan pushed against Lane’s hard body, the heat of his skin radiating out through his clothes. The firm softness of Lane’s mouth sucked at Nolan’s lips, tender and sensual, as their tongues wrapped one another. Nolan shivered and slipped his hands under Lane’s shirt, palms pressed tentatively against the skier’s rippled abs.

“I’m not,” Lane trembled when their kiss paused. His breath puffed out unevenly, his eyes hazy with want and desire.

“What?” Nolan whispered against his lips, his own eyes heavy, barely open.

“I’m not…ashamed. Of this…of what we’ve done…what we’re doing now.” He softly caressed Nolan’s face, being extra tender with his bruised cheek. “I know that maybe it looks like I am because I’m hiding it from my friends…from everyone. But I’m not.” He pressed a soft kiss to Nolan’s mouth. “It’s just…”

“I know,” Nolan breathed and kissed him. “I know. I was never ‘in the closet’, so I never had to go through this. But it doesn’t mean I don’t understand how hard this can be for others. I know how people are, how they look at you and treat you when you’re different from them.”

Lane sighed and rested his head to Nolan’s brow. “I am ashamed of that,” he murmured. “That I was one of those people.”

“You’re better now,” Nolan smiled warmly and gently tugged his lips. “No hard feelings.”

“None?”

“Nope.”

Lane lowered his hands to Nolan’s hips and pulled him closer, snuggling their crotches. “There seems to be a hard feeling down there.”

Laughing quietly, Nolan murmured against his mouth, “Okay, so maybe there’s one hard feeling.”

Lane chuckled and kissed him, sliding his arms around Nolan’s waist, pushing deep into the kiss.

Why can’t you just stay here at Winterhaven with me? Nolan hugged him tight and let himself plunge into the depths of Lane’s passion. We could hibernate for the rest of the winter, and come spring…you would be a new man, ready to blossom and show the world your beautiful colors. His heart ached at the thought of Lane going away so soon; he wasn’t ready to be out there on his own yet. I need more time. Just a little more time. But there wasn’t any time left. Just one more night.

“Are you okay?” Lane murmured.

Nolan opened his eyes, hardly aware the kiss had faded as their lips trembled close together. Dampness distorted his vision, and Lane’s face shimmered before him. “I’m going to miss you,” he whispered with a sudden thickness of emotion.

Kissing him again, Lane said softly, “I bet this is the first time you’ve felt that way.” A small smile formed. “Before, I bet you were thinking instead ‘goodbye to bad rubbish’. Huh?”

Shaking his head slowly, Nolan swallowed and buried his face in Lane’s neck. “Surprisingly, no,” he trembled. “Despite everything…I was never glad to see you go.”

Lane held him closer. “Oddly enough,” he whispered. “I was never glad to go.”

“What do you think that means?”

“Don’t know,” Lane sighed then smiled against Nolan’s hair. “We’re both a little crazy?”

Nolan raised his head. Crazy for you, he thought achingly as he gazed into Lane’s beautiful aqua eyes. “You have to be a little crazy to survive this world.”

“True.”

Rubbing his hands up Lane’s back beneath his shirt, Nolan pressed a soft kiss to his throat. “Spend the night with me tonight?” He felt Lane tense a little, and added quietly, “You can say no. I won’t be mad. I know it’s taking a risk, especially with Rodney and Tonya around.” He caressed Lane’s warm skin and laid his head on his shoulder. “It just feels so good having you in my bed…making love to you…” The words slipped out so naturally and were already free before he could consider whether he should have used that term. He stiffened in Lane’s arm, waiting and wondering if Lane would correct him, tell him they had fucked…not made love.

A shudder ran through Lane. “It feels good to me, too,” he whispered and tightened his arms around Nolan. “Better than anything I’ve ever felt in my life.” He loosened his hold and lifted Nolan’s face, kissing him deeply. “I-”

“Nolan, are you in here—?”

Nolan gasped, and his head snapped around, locking eyes with Lizzy’s shocked stare as she stood in the door. “Lizzy…”

“Uh…” she swallowed and backed up, bumping the swinging door. “Sorry, I didn’t mean to…” She motioned nervously toward the lounge. “I’ll go…”

Lane’s body was rigid, his breath erratic as Nolan slowly withdrew his hands from beneath his shirt and stepped out of his arms. “Lizzy…wait.” He glanced anxiously at Lane then back to Lizzy. “Please, don’t say anything to…”

Shaking her head, Lizzy murmured, “No,” she breathed, still in shock. “I-I won’t. It’s…it’s none of my business.”

“Thank you,” Nolan whispered with gratitude.

She nodded, shot Lane one more stunned look, then retreated.

Nolan was shaking; anyone could have come through those doors. He looked at Lane who appeared even more rattled. “It’s okay,” Nolan said thickly. “She won’t tell anyone.”

They both jumped when Lizzy re-entered unexpectedly. “Sorry,” she said. “It’s starting to fill up out there.” She looked at Lane. “Walk out with me, in case anyone sees you. Nolan can wait a few minutes then slip out unnoticed. If someone asks what we were doing in here, I’ll just tell them…” she faltered, uncertain.

Nolan quickly retrieved a fresh ice pack and handed it to Lane. “Tell them you were getting him an ice pack for his hand.”

She nodded. “Yeah. Good. Okay.” Lizzy motioned to Lane. “Come on.”

Lane started to follow her, then hesitated and kissed Nolan once more. “I’ll be there…tonight,” he breathed against his lips then followed Lizzy through the door.

“Is my boy in the back?” Drew watched Lane cross the lounge in the direction of his friends while Lizzy detoured to the bar.

Lizzy looked thoughtful. “I’m not allowed to say.”

“I see.” Drew kissed her cheek and smiled. “You’re the coolest girly friend ever.” He headed for the swinging door when Lizzy stopped him.

“So…” she lowered her voice and shot a quick look across the lounge at Todd, Lane, and their friends. “Is there something going on with you and Todd as well?” She raised an eyebrow. “I thought I caught a few looks passing between the two of you.”

Sighing, Drew shrugged and winked. “Not allowed to say.”

Lizzy stared at him with mild surprise, then slowly smiled. “I see,” she murmured. “And this thing you’re not allowed to say…is it serious?”

That was the question, wasn’t it? “I don’t know,” Drew admitted. “At this point, I don’t really know what it is.”

“I’ve never seen you do serious.”

Drew nodded and rubbed his mouth. “Not sure I want to start.” As the words passed over his lips, though, his eyes drifted to Todd and the immediate ache that squeezed his heart countered the notion. In less than three days, Todd was already starting to feel like someone he didn’t want to live without. And that scared the hell out of him.

Squeezing his arm, Lizzy said softly, “Don’t be afraid to give love a chance. If it’s right, it’ll work itself out. I do believe that.”

Drew gazed at her. “Love is a pretty strong word.”

“Yeah,” she smiled. “And it takes a strong person to run toward it, rather than away from it.”

“You think I’m strong?”

“One of the strongest people I know.”

Glancing at the swinging door, Drew murmured, “Not as strong as Nolan. Despite the risks, he isn’t afraid to take that leap.”

“So, take a page from his book.”

It isn’t that easy for me, he thought. I wish it were. He smiled lovingly at Lizzy. “I’ll think about it.”

“You do that.” She kissed his cheek. “You’d make an awesome boyfriend.”

Drew chuckled. “So I’ve been told.”

“Nolan?”

“Mm,” he nodded.

“He’s a wise one.” She poked him lightly in the chest. “Listen to him.”

He smiled. “I’ll think about it.”

“All right,” she sighed. “But don’t just be a man of thought. Be a man of action, too.” She winked and smiled.

“I’ll think about that, too,” he grinned.

“Uh,” she groaned and laughed. “You are incorrigible.”

“But lovably so, right?”

Lizzy rolled her eyes with a quirky smile. “Absolutely.”

Drew chuckled and tasseled her hair as he headed for the back room. He found Nolan sitting on an upturned crate, back against the wall, eyes distant. “Hey, sexy.” Drew walked over, grabbed another crate and slid it close to Nolan and sat down. “Whatcha doing?”

“Nothing.” Nolan blinked and shrugged. “Just spacing.”

“Kind of looked like you had something profound on your mind.”

“Profound?” Nolan looked at him, bemused. “Me?”

Drew grinned and scratched his temple. “Is it safe to assume you were back here with your boy?”

My boy?” A not-so-veiled longing filled Nolan’s eyes. “I don’t know if I can rightfully call him mine.”

“I don’t know,” Drew smiled. “Seems like he’s becoming more and more yours by the moment.”

Lowering his eyes, Nolan stared at his hands. “While he’s here, maybe,” he whispered. His throat worked, and he looked up. “I’ve never been this close before, Drew.”

“Close…?”

Nolan swallowed. “To having it all.” His eyes stung. “Even when I didn’t understand why, Lane has always been my dream. And now…” he looked down. “It feels like it’s all coming true. But it also feels so…fragile, you know? Like it could break apart at any moment and fall through my fingers.” His vision swam, and he leaned against Drew. “I’m scared shitless. And I keep telling myself to slow down, back off a little, and not get so attached. But then, he’s right in front of me…wanting me, too…and I can’t pull back. All I want to do is dive deeper into him.” He closed his eyes as Drew wrapped an arm around him. “I know you think I’m being ridiculously stupid to take this kind of risk on someone who will probably walk away tomorrow and forget about me.” He bit his lip as his chin trembled. “And I know you’re probably right.”

Drew kissed his head. “Not once, since the day I first met you…” he murmured. “…have I ever thought that anything you did was ridiculously stupid.” He hugged Nolan closer. “Honestly, baby, I admire and envy your courage to take the risk.” He pressed his lips to his hair. “I wish I was as brave as you.” His throat hurt as it closed tightly. “But it’s really hard to be brave when the last time you risked it all…you lost everything.”

Lifting his head, Nolan gazed up at him with tear-filled eyes. “Who was he?”

Drew swallowed thickly. “Someone who said they loved me, made me believe it with all my heart, but he kept it hidden from everyone. He promised me he would come out, that we would be together.” The pain crept through him as if inflicted just yesterday. “In the end, he chose the lie over me. He was my first real love, and he threw me away because his fear of being himself was greater than his love for me.” His vision shimmered as he stared at Nolan. “I see him in Todd, and I…I don’t know if I can go there again.”
