(Real story)
I was 13 at the time. I think it was 2am in winter. I woke up to the sound of the smoke alarm blaring. I could barely hear my parents shouting from across the house.
You see, my bedroom and my brother are on the opposite side from my parents.
I flung my sheets off and fumbled with my glasses, I was panicking so much I didn't even get them on as I moved through the house coughing. Someone grabbed my wrist and pulled me through the house. I honestly couldn't hear who it was but they pushed me ahead into someone else who held me and we ran out together. We made it outside to the street.
I could finally hear and start to understand what was happening. My dad had passed me to our neighbor who ran into the house to help us while dad ran to get my brother.
Our neighbor Claire is a super nice lady. She handed me my glasses since I had dropped them and she never left my side until my brother came through the door.
The fire trucks arrived swiftly and did their thing. They saved the house. Most of the neighbhood came to see what was happening and that's when it clicked that I was outside in the cold in just my superman briefs. I'm the only one who doesn't wear pj's.
Most people saw me and a bunch of the kids went to my school. I was teased about my briefs but that was at school. The adults told them to shush or to stop pointing at me because of what was going on.
Once everything claimed down, it was discovered that the fire started because of a blanket or clothing was on the heater.

Oh my goodness Ashe! That must have been so scary. Thank god you all got out ok and no one was hurt.
Sun, September 17th, 2023 1:39pmAs embarrassing as it is to be seen in just your underpants, I’m glad to hear the priority was just to get out.
It’s tricky witnessing stuff like that, I’m not surprised the other kids couldn’t help laughing and were ‘shushed’ by their parents for it being inappropriate. On the one hand, it’s good that you were safe and got out quickly, but on the other… it’s a boy from their school in just his super hero briefs in the middle of the street!
