Wow. I like your writing style, crisp and to the point. You keep a nice pace and use dialogue perfectly with your narration.

I know nothing about legal mumbo jumbo more than I see on TV, but it seems a little early to make arrests even though the evidence seems telling. Everything thus far is circumstantial, and the DA will want to weigh it all out. That being said, it's a minimal issue in what certainly is an otherwise very convincing and detailed piece of drama.

The chapter is pretty long for this site. You could easily make three out of this. Very quick read, though. Nice aesthetics.

You certainly have some surprising things here at the end of this piece, particularly for west Texas. I gather we are going to move from 'simple made complicated', so rushing through the process makes perfect literary sense. It's a great story thus far, and you tell it professionally.
