HARLEY

Light beams dissolve along westbound car streams

Chasing hungry brown coyotes to their lairs

Beneath irrigated pivot patterns

She'll run the stretches between Fort Collins

And Boulder.

She arrived on a Friday afternoon.

Then sat for two days in a cycle shop—

Murdered-out in flat, black denim. Stripped to

Fenders and a solo seat. She needed

No introduction. Arnold had shown her

To the world.

But she was finer without saddle bags.

Big Lou’s Black Shadow never had them, and

Backpacks are boy scout gear. I cranked her up

On Monday, then drove her through fog. She was

Hot, so I cooled her down before bolting

Pipes to her exhaust ports. And now she's an

Outlaw heading fast for the open road.

Ah, don’t they call these machines ‘hawgs’ or is that the riders?

I like the personification and imagery. Here’s a guy who builds his own ride to take his journey. A pioneer in the wilderness
