Sports Physical at State University

I decided to try out for the football team as a “walk on” at State University.  That meant that I had to take a sports physical.  I was given a date and a place tp appear for the physical.  When I arrived I was surprised to find out it was a gym.  I expected it to be a doctor's office. When I got there I was surprised at the number of men present.

There were two young women to greet us, probably students.  They gave us forms to fill out.  Among the forms was a consent to be examined.  When we had filled out the forms the women handed us a large plastic bag and a sharpy.  We were told to write our names on the bags.  When everyone was finished one of them said, “Please take off all your clothes and put your clothes in the bags.  We will keep them for you and return them to you when your physicals are over.”

“Wait a minute, I said. "All of our clothes?"

She said, "Yes, everything."

To be sure, I said, "You want us completely naked?"

She said, "Yes."

I said, "Right here in the middle of the gym?"

She said, "Yes."

I said, "Anyone can come in here."

She said, "I don't make the rules."

I said, "Do we have to be naked now?"

She answered, "Yes, you need to be naked for the entire physical?"

I asked, "Why can't we wear skivies until the hernia exam?:

She said, "It goes faster if everyone is naked from the start."

I asked, "Why can't we get individual exams?”

She said, "Group exams are faster and cheaper."

I said, "We need to undress. You can leave now."

She answered, "We have to collect your clothes.and then we have to guide you through the exam."

I said, "You mean we have to undress in front of you?"

She said, "It isn't going to make a difference,  All of the personnel are women."

I asked, Why can't we have men to do the exams?"

She said, "We can't find enough male nurses.  We make it all female so you don't have to be exposed in mixe company."

I asked, "You mean we are to be paraded naked in front of an all female staff."

She said, "Yes,"

I said, "What about you two?"

She said, "We are aides."

I asked, "Are the aides experienced medical professionals?"

She said, "All the aides are students."

I asked, "What do you mean all the aides.  How many aides are there?"

She said, "There will be an aide for every athlete."

I asked, "Are there any other people involved in these physicals?"

She said, "Just the secretaries."

I said, "There are secretaries too?"

She said, "Someone has to record the doctors' notes."

I said, "Where do the secretaries come from?"

She said, "They are volunteers from the secretarial pool."

I asked, "Have you ever done this before?"

She said, "No, this is my first time."

I said, "Have you even seen a naked man before?"

She said, "No, I only have sisters."

I asked, "What qualifies you to do this?

She said, "I won the lottery!"

I exclaimed, "There was a lottery!"

She answered, "There were so many volunteers, it was the only way to select."

I asked, "So you are not being paid for this."

She said, "No, I am a volunteer."

I asked, "Why did you volunteer?"

She answered, "I volunteered because I have never seen a naked man before."

I asked, "So now I have to provide that naked man for you to see.

She said, "No, you can pay for your own private physician."

I asked, "How would you like it if I were an aide and you were naked during a physical"

She said, "That never happens." 

I asked, "Why not?"

She said, "Girls get private exams."

I asked, "Why do girls get private exams."

She said, "To protect their modesty."

I asked, "So girls can be modest but boys can't?"

She said, "I guess so."

I said, "Girls get private exams from same sex doctors and males are exposed nude in front of groups of women?"

She said, "Yes."

I said, "I am going to complain about this?"

She answered, “You can have your physical done by a private physician if you wish.”

I said, “Do I have to pay for it?”

She answered, “Yes, you will.”

I said, “I can’t afford it.”

She said, “Then you will either have to have your physical done here or you will have to forget about participating in sports.”

I said, "So you get to see me naked after all."

She said, "And I get to look all I want."

I and the other prospective athletes began to undress while the girls watched us.  It was most disconcerting.  When we were naked we put our clothes in the bags, sealed them and handed them to the girls.  The girls took the bags and put them in alphabetized racks.  Then the two girls brought us naked into the gym.  As she said, the gym was made up into various stations with all of the personnel female.  The doctors were wearing street clothes, the nurses were wearing nursing uniforms and the secretaries were sitting down behind tables.

I looked around the gym, the stations were situated one right after the other.  Groups of us were then directed alphabetically to the various stations.  There was a station for each function: weight, height, temperature, blood pressure, taking blood, turning your head and coughing etc.  We started at different stations and continued until we had completed every station.

Also present and just standing around watching were a group of other girls.  Every now and then one of them would be called over to a table and given an order.  Then they would leave the gym and shortly return.  I concluded that these girls were gofers. 

In addition, to the women participating in the physical there was actually an audience.  The gym was not closed off.  Women came into the gym and stayedto watch.  Nothing like showing patients "dignity and respect".  This would never would happen to girls!  They get individual exams!
