We were called the Lucky Country.
All we do now is export mostly raw materials.

I think many Australians would agree.

When the last car rolled off the production lines here five years ago,so did our manufacturing prowess.

Whatever happened to the Australian movie industry as well.It was thriving in the 70's and 80's.Ssme with our local pop music industry.

Australia is now again almost totally a primary producer. We have returned to our colony past.

Sure there are millions of jobs in the big cities.

Most of these jobs are now in hospitality and retail. Most are six hour shifts.

One day the Australian Dollar will cease to trade at about seventy cents US.Just as it did at times in the past.We will get a lot less for our export raw materials.

We are now going backwards. The hungry and dynamic other Asian economies will start to absorb our now one dimensional economy.

We will no longer be the lucky or a super wealthy country.

IT SUCKS.

It's a "crying shame" kitten.
Australia had gone from a primary producer to an industry based primary producer then now back to a primary producer only.

Our car making factories have all closed down.
Our thriving Aussie film industry of the 70's and 80's has all but disappeared. Not due to COVID either.

I fear that some time after about 2050 we will make a thriving industry from accepting and storing the world's waste materials.
We have the size and remote location to do this.

In 1954 the British tested their first atomic bomb here in the south Australian desert at a remote place called Maralinga.

I think Australia is way too beautiful of a Country to resort to, or allow to become the trash receptacle of the world... Yes English used it as such, but they used the US that way as well, & Africa, Etc... Doesn't make it right, & doesn't make it the proper thing to do!

Thanks for your comments Spy.
America fought the British for your independence. We had our chance to do it by referendum ten years ago .
We voted it down.

Australia is about eighty per cent desert. Most of our population live around the coastline.
Economics will eventually decree that we continue to be a wealthy country by disposing of waste materials.I think so anyway.
