Thursday Evening

Longing for home
Yearning for love
Desperate freedom
And the pain of the wolf in the trap.

Hunger for faith
Wanting things simple
No longer childish
And knowing you cannot find home.

What is man, and what is woman,
but disappointments to each other?
Man, lost in the morning paper,
Woman, lost in the children.
No longer daring to speak,
Each move of love, checkmated!

Not being cared for
Not even caring
One, secret wish
And fantasy: getting away!

Seeing the choices
Knowing they're all wrong.
Insistent voices,
And knowing which way you must go.
