The mirror called society,
reflecting just shattered shadows,
silhouettes condemned to dance
against some semi-bright surface,
feelings augmented and belittled,
pain ignored and slowly festering,
all hitting the sensibly cracked mirror,
all claiming to be seen and heard
for what they were really meant to be,
for what they never stopped being.
The cracked mirror holds just images,
there´s no true, honest reflection,
just a small parody of life and death,
and sad creatures hitting the glass,
trying to escape the smouldering sheet,
trying to live, even if it is for a short time.

Very contemplative!
Wed, August 11th, 2021 9:16pmAh, "sad creatures hitting the glass" says it all for me, Lizzie. Those words are resounding because I feel this every day. As usual, you say so much with so few words and all are spotlighted in the flow of your elegance. Each line is given weight for the poignant times we live in. Thanks for sharing your thoughts in such a way. :)

Lizzie, it's so good to see you posting again....I've not seen you since the resurrection of this site. I'm accustomed to romantic earthy pieces from you about dimly lit cities by the river and past relationships. This one is a social statement. I do like your initial metaphor - society the mirror. I think we do see ourselves through the eyes of the masses as some disfigured unrealistic image. Society is certainly cracked and truth is a fleeting perception. You're making some bold challenges!
