CONTINUATION OF THE PAST

ONE MONTH LATER

"Mr. Kim, can you see if I solved this math problem correctly?" I asked sliding my notebook across the table to him. We were sitting at the small table in his apartment. He set down the book he was reading and looked it over briefly. "It is correct. The way you solved the problem is a little different than I would have done it, but your answer is correct. You may call me Sung-ho." I looked up from the math textbook with a smile.

"How would you have solved it?" I asked. He moved his chair and came to sit directly beside me. Coaxing the pencil out of my hand he rewrote the problem and began to solve it. "Do you see?" he asked turning to look at me. I nodded. "I see," I said meeting his gaze, not even looking at the notebook.

He cleared his throat and picked up the textbook. "Why are you taking this math class now? Isn't this a freshman course?" he asked examining the textbook. "I put it off until the last minute. Math isn't necessary for my history degree," I stated. "Hmm," he murmured setting the book down. He turned to face me. "You should strive to excel in all courses. Math, history, science, art, English literature, foreign languages, etc. A learned mind is an open mind," he stated.

"I have a very open mind," I admitted. His gaze met mine. "Do you have something on your mind?" he asked. I nodded. "What is it?" he inquired. Leaning forward I kissed his cheek. "Was that it?" he asked turning his face to meet my gaze. I nodded again. "Well part of it," I stated sheepishly. "Hmm," he murmured again.

I was settling back down in my chair when he suddenly caught the back of my head with his hand, burying his fingers into my hair. He pulled me to him and his lips came crashing down on mine. His tongue teased my lips and parted them as he explored my mouth. Then just as suddenly as it had begun, it ended. Releasing me, I stumbled back into my seat.

"Hmm," he murmured standing. I was dazed. He walked over to the fridge and took out two bottles of water. He set one down in front of me and sat down beside me. "Perhaps you'd like to come over Friday and watch a movie with me?" he suggested as he drank nearly half his water in one gulp.

"Friday?" I repeated turning to look at him. He chuckled at my facial expression. "Are you on this planet right now?" he asked waving his hand in front of my face. My mind was a million miles away and no doubt my face was very red. "Yes. Friday is good with me. What time?" I asked.  "7PM sharp," he answered.

"I'll be here," I stated suddenly rising, gathering my backpack, notebook and textbook. "Leaving so soon?" he asked, clearly amused. "I don't think I can get anymore schoolwork done with you around. You're very distracting," I admitted. He stood and followed me to the door. "Perhaps we could pass the time doing something else?" he asked with an eyebrow arched.

"As tempting as that is, I have to get this done before class and I have class in two hours." He took the book from me and the notebook. Walking back to the table he began to write the problems down. "Finished," he stated letting the pencil plop down onto the notebook. He approached me and I dropped my bag as he pulled me into his arms, simultaneously slamming my back into the door while his lips came crashing down on mine.

I buried my fingers into his hair and deepened the kiss as I pulled him tighter against me. "I should go," I murmured fumbling with the door handle. "Stay," he growled softly against my lips. How could I refuse when he said it like that? Somehow I found the willpower and pulled away. "I can't," I murmured softly, prying his hands off my waist.

"You are already in a relationship?" he guessed. I nodded, stepped past him and grabbed my belongings once more. "Does he attend this school?" he asked curiously. "No. It's long distance. We've been in a relationship since we were 16," I stated. "I see." He straightened the collar of my shirt and sighed.

"Well if you change your mind, I will be here." I nodded in understanding and opened the door, quickly taking my leave.

As I was walking down the hallway my phone rung. Speaking of the devil. "Chris," I greeted answering the phone. "Jane, we have to talk. This isn't working. I've found someone else here..." before he could say another word I hung up. "Thank you god," I mumured, completely relieved. I'd been trying to think of a way to break up with him for several months now. Things had gotten old and stale with him and weren't going anywhere.

This was the excuse I needed to go back to Sung-ho. I paused at the door, my hand on the handle. I could hear arguing inside. He was yelling in Korean at someone over the phone. Things did not seem pleasant. This was not a good time. Releasing the handle, I turned around.

The door swung open and I was pulled by my backpack into the apartment. "Hey!" I protested turning to look at Sung-ho. "You came back. Why?" he asked curiously. "I left my pencil," I lied quickly walking over to the table to retrieve it. He moved past me and grabbed the pencil before I could.

I watched as he opened his mouth and placed the pencil between his teeth. With a sigh, I rolled my shoulders, letting my bag fall to the floor. He smiled, amused. Fast as lighting, I yanked the pencil from his mouth and took off running across the room. He caught me easily and pulled me into his arms. Taking my face in his hands, he pressed his lips to mine. I kissed him back and he picked me up, carrying me to his bedroom.
