Before Shortnin' Bread

Whatever happened to these old fruit jars? Now covered in memories of mom's spiced peaches. Down the broken staircase of a twisted oak. Leaving footprints in the dust of my mind's watermelon rinds. Now only whispers from my mom's old rocking chair. But I bet the canned corn is still sweet? Tripping over the okra, from the fields below the farmhouse. Whereas a boy, I flew my kite. Before my shortnin' bread.
