Button Of Coal

A smattering of breath fell upon the pane
in condensation with no plate of name
dripping from its chin, aluminum frame
with eyes black as buttons of coal

In the shadow of the twilight of my window hung
a wretches brogue unlocking the latch
with fingers on my chest speaking in tongue
vaporizing at my door into webs of cataracts

Over my twenty-four carat bones
I was promised a garland and tiara
with a plot in the sun near ivory towers
and my name etched in stone

If I had known in death I would be this lonely
as my lapel was pinned with a carnation
but saving all my awards for austerity
I would have been cremated
