Getting up to speed from the last book--Prologue
A human group known as Project Purity has been waging war against the other species of the universe. Claiming that since they were the first species, and because their ancestors created the other races. All should bow to them, which a lot of races think is ridiculous. Erics was a Captain serving this group, in order to get information for the resistance and to save Chimeras up for the chopping block. (Chimeras were people, until they were experimented on. Often trying to get two different life forms to become one being. The process and side effects are horrible, and can lead to both dying.)
However, she was found out by Yesse Sanders. Although he was at first praised for killing the spy and crew. He was latter demoted when it was discovered Erics was the sole survivor of that ship. He has been bent on revenge ever since, along with Jubei Noiem. Who's brother was also on the ship and died along with Erics crew. Like Yesse he has been unable to find her, and along with his best friend Connor Coarsely. The two have been trying to find work. Not having the best of luck, they try the troll world of Helga. Which although is still a Purity controlled planet, due to the troll influence everything is allowed happen. That includes Mercenary work, and one of the best intelligence networks and broker systems.
What brings these three together is an unlikely fourth party. A young woman that goes by the name of Skye, and is at first thought to be a chimera herself. While on the lookout for her missing partner, she steals a phoenix egg and gets them all in hot water with the local troll mob. Yesse is working with this mob as well, and uses Skye as bait to lure Eris and the crew into a trap to save her. Little does anyone know the Man-eater, a thing of nightmares and legends. Hailing from the hostile world of Rutledge has been walking among them this whole time. Skye uses her frightening abilities to save the day and ends up wounding herself in the process. Now it's a race against time, and will to save her life. If it's worth saving the life of a monster.
