She had her back to him but she could still feel his eyes on her. She didn't even need to turn around to imagine the way he was laying there. He would be sitting halfway up, resting on his elbows and forearms, white sheets low on his naked waist, eyes burning into the back of her head. She stayed still. Legs propped up and crossed on the fancy hotel table. There was a paper and pen sitting next to her bare legs. All night that Joni Mitchell song that Albear downloaded to her Ipod was running through her mind. Both Sides Now. He told her to keep the song close to her heart if she was going to play this game. The game of tricking he calls it. Albear never took an interest in her love life, but now she had become interesting. "Not just another boring straight girl." He would say.
Looking out the window again, you could tell that it was freezing outside, but she couldn't feel a thing. Her blood was boiling, adrenaline coursing through her body. She was wearing her black panties, Alexsander's' white wife-beater and white socks. In a minute he would be telling her to come back to bed. But right now she could still feel him watching her. She knew what he was thinking, What could possibly be so important that she would be staring out the window watching the sun rise instead of snuggling up next to him. But things, for her, always seemed different in the light of day and she couldn't wait to get out of there.
"Do you feel guilty?" He asked. The words came out so quiet and low that she barely heard him.
"No." She said, not even turning around but taking her legs down off the table.
"Then come back to bed." He said.
She looked down at the blank piece of paper in front of her, the hotel logo was at the top. She was just getting ready to start writing, but now with him awake, he would be a distraction.
"Come back to bed." He said again.
"No." she said softly. "I have to go. and you have a meeting this morning."
"Christ." He said. "You're not even my girlfriend yet and you already know my schedule." His girlfriend yet. She thought to herself. That would definitely be a no no in Albear's rule book of tricking.
She looked down at the paper again. She really wanted to write the lyrics to this song, it would keep her grounded, bring her back to reality a little. She felt the urgent need to get the word's out of her head and onto paper.
Alexsander pushed back the covers and got out of bed. He walked over to her stark naked and stood behind her. His hands were massive, very long and slender. He pulled her long black hair back behind her shoulders and leaned over to whisper in her ear. "I need to take a shower, come join me." His lips were so close to her ear she could feel the heat from his breath, the heat in his word's, it sent tingles down her spine.
"In a minute." She said.
He let out a low sigh and headed to the bathroom.
She looked down at the piece of paper and picked up the pen. She began to write: Alex- Sorry about the shower, gotta run. See u tonight at dinner. She set the pen down, took off the wife-beater and set it on the bed. She put on her clothes very quickly, grabbed her cell and her purse and closed the door quietly behind her.
In the cab, she leaned her head back and closed her eyes. If she couldn't write this very moment, she would do the next best thing. She pulled out her Ipod and pushed play. It was still set to Joni from the night before. Albear said this song was the story of her life, and it was holding her back. The first time she heard it, a cord was struck so deeply inside of her she had become obsessed with the fact that there was somebody else out there that understood the labors of life that women go through. Last night she was listening to the song right up to the moment she met up with Alexsander. Alex, was trouble. Bad trouble. All 6 foot '4 of him. A blonde hair, blue eyed devil. A very gorgeous devil. And he made everything hurt so good. The song began to play and she tried to push last night's events out of her mind. She began to mouth the words to the song.
The cab came to a halt. "We're here ma'am." The driver said.
She looked out the window. They were in front of Pride Diner. Pride Diner was located in what would be considered the gay part of The City, but it was the best place for breakfast and comfort food. Plus it was The Boys favorite place to go. She had become somewhat of a fag hag these days, but she didn't mind, she loved hanging out with the boys.
She began to notice that something was wrong, there was a small crowd of people off to the side of the Diner and many police cars. She got out of the cab and hesitated to see the commotion. There was police caution tape everywhere. It was still early, so their weren't many people around but half the staff was outside checking out the commotion. Three people rushed up behind her talking excitedly.
"Hey Lourdes what's up." Lourdes new that unmistakeable southern accent could only belong to none other than Lamont. And Lamont, had to be joined by Tyler and Corey, because they were all joined at the hip.
She turned around and was greeted with a kiss on the cheek.
"Hey gorgeous." Albear smiled, grabbing her hand and leading her across the street. Tyler and Lamont followed along.
"Where's Corey?" Lourdes asked, smiling at everybody. "And what's going on?"
Albear put his arm around her and pulled her closer to him. He smelled nice. He had whiskers from not shaving, but other than that, he was dressed like he stepped out of a Calvin Klein ad. Albear always looked great and everybody was in love with him. If he wasn't gay, she would probably be married to him.
"The breakfast cook went into the bathroom this morning and found a guy dead in there."
"Shut, up." Lourdes said, big brown eyes wide with surprise.
"No it's true." Lamont said. "He was obviously one of us."
"Why is that?" Lourdes asked.
"By the way he was dressed." Lamont said.
"Yeah," Tyler spoke up. "That hideous outfit, screamed queen."
"So what are you saying," Albear interrupted, "that somebody killed him because of his bad fashion sense?"
Tyler chuckled.
"What do you think happened?" Lourdes asked.
"He was shot." Albear said.
"Yes, but do you think that it was somebody that he knew?" Lamont speculated.
"I do." Tyler said. "All the signs are there. It clearly has to be a lover."
"Ty dear," Lamont said, "I think you've seen too many operas."
Lourdes smiled. They boys were her favorite people to be around, they were better than a strong cup of coffee in the morning. She would describe Lamont as flamboyant and sometimes a little overwhelming, but he always brightened her spirits. Tyler tended to be a bit more reserved. What you would call a vanilla boy. Very gay but very straight.
Albear on the other hand, there were hardly any words. God's gift to the gay world. He is as tall as Lamont but way more gorgeous. Perfect skin, perfect teeth, perfect body, everybody is in love with him and the only person he is in love with is himself.
Lourdes looked down, her black cell phone was chiming. She had a new text message. The guys were still chatting so she read the message.
Where did you go? I want see you again tonight.
Lourdes closed the phone. She and Alex had somehow become tight overnight, and now he wanted all of her time. Her thoughts were interrupted by the boys chatter.
"So, whoever it was that killed him, do you think they...you know?" Lamont asked.
"I hope so," Albear said, smoothing back his dark brown hair. "It's always better to blow before you go."
"Alby!" Lourdes shrieked. "You're absolutely horrible."
The boys started laughing. They went inside, the rival coffee shop across the street. They spent the next thirty minutes gossiping and having breakfast until they all went their separate ways.
Back in another cab, Lourdes had just enough time to go over to her side of town, go home, shower, change clothes and head out to a gig. She glanced down at her watch and realized that she was going to be late. She was catering a lunch party for a friend that she hadn't seen in years. She didn't even know if she could consider this person a friend, he was more like an acquaintance. Jasper Archer, the brother of a guy that Lourdes use to have a crush on way back in the day. Somehow Jasper got her number through a mutual friend and wanted to hire her.
She had lost touch with the old crew that she use to hang with, so this should be an interesting experience, she thought to herself.
Everything was taken care of, all of the food was prepared and just needed to be popped in the ovens for heating. Her partner, Christina, was probably already there setting up. They expected no more than 10 people for this intimate gathering, so it should be no problem for them to crank out soups, salads, appetizers and desserts. Lourdes could see Christina unloading the Demigloss Catering van as the cab pulled up to Jasper's house.
"Hey Christina!" Lourdes said jumping out of the cab. "Looking good, is everything going smoothly?"
"Everything's dandy." CC said handing Lourdes a couple of platters. Christina was about twenty years older than Lourdes, but you wouldn't know it, with her youthful appearance and no lines in her flawless, dark skin. She use to work at the Pride Diner as a waitress and cook, but with her stellar culinary skills, Lourdes convinced her to join forces in this party planning business. It made perfect sense, Christina could make more money catering privately, than she would working a sixty hour work week at the Diner. Ever since they partnered together, it had been a winning relationship for all parties involved. Christina was more like a mother to Lourdes and the boys. And very full of life. She has a big heart and big mouth, which Lourdes loves, but sometimes it got her into trouble. Needless to say never in a professional atmosphere.
"We're almost set," Christina said, "everything is good to go, we just need to put on the finishing touches."
"That's great. Have people started to arrive?" Lourdes asked as they headed in to the house.
"Only a couple of people." Christina said guiding Lourdes into the kitchen. They swung open the kitchen door and found two people stuffing their faces with food. Lourdes recognized Jasper immediately. He looked exactly the same, tall and thin with a very kind face. When he saw her his eyes lit up like Christmas lights.
"You caught us, we are so busted." Jasper walked over from the kitchen counter popping one more appetizer into his mouth. The second person in the room was a woman. She looked about Lourdes' age. Jasper came over and kissed her on the cheek.
"Long time no see, I'm glad that you could come out and do this on such short notice."
"Hello Jasper." Lourdes said. "Or is it Mr. Archer or-
"Just Jasper," He interrupted, "we don't stand on any formality here. Come and meet my girlfriend Lolita."
Jasper rushed Lourdes closer to Lolita to shake hands. "Nice to meet you." Lourdes smiled shaking her hand.
"You too." Lolita said. "Sorry about our little pig out session. We've been starving all morning and everything smelled so good, we had to come and sample."
"It's no problem, please help yourself." Lourdes took off her coat set it down on a stool, replacing it with her chef's coat. "So is the guest of honor here?"
"Not yet," Lita said, "But he should be here in about thirty minutes. Will that be enough time for you?"
"Of course." Lourdes said smiling, picking up an apron and tying it at the waist.
"Well, I'm going to head out to pick up our guest from the airport, and Lita can help you with anything that you ladies may need." Jasper said going out of the kitchen.
"Sounds great. We'll see you soon." Christina called after him.
Jasper left the room but Lita stayed. "Is there anything that I can help you with?"
"Nah," Christina said rushing around her. "We've got it handled."
"Yep," Lourdes added, "you're here to enjoy yourself, let us take care of everything."
"Okay," Lita said. "I'll come and alert you when the guest start showing up."
"Fabulous." Lourdes smiled.
Christina and Lourdes continued to work for the next twenty five minutes until everything was set up perfectly. Lita came in about ten minutes later and alerted them to the fact that people were arriving. Christina set out the h'orderves and began filling the guest glasses with wine and champagne. Lourdes stayed in the kitchen and began plating up the desserts for later.
About twenty minutes later the party really started. There was a multitude of voices and chatter. The music was going, people were laughing, the wine was flowing, everything appeared to be a success.
Lita came rushing into the kitchen and set a glass of white wine down on the counter. "Thought you could use a drink." She said.
"Thanks," Lourdes said, "but I don't usually drink on the job."
"Oh come on. Jasper told me that you're old friends, hell, practically family. Nobody is going to judge the chef for enjoying the party with us." Lolita smiled very sweetly. She was beautiful. She had to be of Latin descent. Long black hair, pretty olive complexion, smoldering brown eyes and shaped like the figure eight. Plus, she seemed to have a permanent smile on her face.
"Why do I get the feeling that you're plying me with wine for liquid courage?" Lourdes asked grinning.
"Because I am." Lita said. "Jasper and I sort of had this idea of killing two birds with one stone."
"Which would be...?" Lourdes didn't get a chance to finish her sentence. The kitchen door swung open. They both looked up, and Lourdes suddenly realized what Lita was about to tell her. The guest of honor was standing in the doorway. It was Pullo, Jasper's brother. The very same brother that Lourdes use to have a crush on many years ago. He hardly changed either. A couple more lines added to his face. His hair use to be blonde and longer, but now it was short and dark, cropped close to his head. He was tall like Jasper, but not as thin, more muscular. His smile was very kind, but those eyes...they were deceiving. There was danger in them. It only took Lourdes a second to realize that. There was always something mysterious about Pullo, which is probably why she use to be attracted to him in the first place.
"Hello ladies." He said, standing there smiling. He was exactly the same. His voice was deep, cool and calm, just like she remembered.
She wondered if he remembered her. In the past, she dressed like a teenager, wore no make-up and always kept her hair braided. But now she was very grown-up and polished. Hair pulled back into a high ponytail, make-up down, fancy little catering clothes, and Prada heels.
She glanced down at his hand. No wedding band. She wondered if he had a girlfriend. Lourdes tilted her head to the side. She needed to push these thoughts out of her mind. She was already crossing the line with Alexsander. Shaking her head, to free her mind of these thoughts, she focused on staying in the moment. Lourdes exhaled slowly and smiled. She hadn't realized that she was holding her breath. This had to have been a first for her. Three men taking her breath away in one year.
Lolita picked up the glass of wine and handed it to Lourdes. Lourdes slowly inhaled a big gulp.
"Lourdes, I believe you know Jasper's brother Pullo, the guest of honor." Lita said. "We haven't seen him for a bit, so we thought a welcome home party was in order."
"Yeah, that's great." Lourdes said. She sounded like an idiot. She took another sip of wine.
"Yeah thanks for this." Pullo said. "It's great to see everybody." He was smiling, but somehow Lourdes didn't really believe him.
"You are absolutely welcome." Lita beamed. She turned to Lourdes and raised her eyebrows and smiled as if to say good luck. Lourdes could tell that Lita wanted to say something else, but Pullo had come in too quickly. "I'm going to step out so you two can catch up a bit." She quickly walked past Pullo and paused in the doorway. "So I'll leave you guys to it. And you're okay, right Lourdes?" There was something in her voice at the end of the question. Lourdes looked up and Pullo turned around. "Of course she's okay, I'm not going to bite her." He turned back to Lourdes. "You're okay, right?"
"Of course." Lourdes smiled at the both of them.
Lita went out the door and Pullo quickly locked it behind her. Pullo's actions made her uncomfortable. He reached into his pocket and pulled out a satin blue box. He set it down on the counter and started rummaging through the cabinets.
Lourdes sort of looked around, nervously smiling. "Is there something I can help you with?" She asked shyly. She looked him up and down. Pullo had stayed in shape over the years. He was wearing black jeans, a dress shirt and a black blazer. He was older than the men that she dated, but she always thought that his sex appeal could make up for the difference in their ages.
He stopped going through the shelves and turned around to look at her. "I hope you don't mind, I need a real drink and the bubbly out there taste like piss."
Lourdes was taken back a bit by his erratic behavior, but it only took a moment for her to see that he was also uncomfortable and obviously unaware, that he was going to be ambushed with a party.
She pointed at the freezer. "I think there's booze in there."
He walked over to the freezer door and swung it open and pulled out a brown bottle. He grabbed a glass off the counter. "Cheers." He said pouring a large amount into the glass.
Lourdes watched him drink down the whole amount of whiskey without flinching. He clinked the glass down on the counter and started to pour another drink. "Would you like one?" He asked without looking up. Everything in her screamed that she should be professional, just do her job, get out of there, go home and get ready for tonight's dinner. She paused for a second and then said. "Sure."
Now he was looking at her. Watching her. He slid the glass over to her, lightly touching her soft brown skin. She picked up the glass and drunk it down just like him. He let out a surprised sigh, then a small laugh. This time his smile was sincere. She could tell this was the first thing to relax him since he arrived.
She leaned in closer to him over the counter and smiled. "So, I take it you had no idea about the party?"
"No idea." He said shaking his head. "Would you like another drink?" He asked. Lourdes shook her head no. She slid the glass back over to him. But instead of pouring another, he picked up the blue satin box and opened it. He pulled out a silver medium sized bullet. Not a bullet for a gun but the type of bullet that you store drugs in. He took a sniff in both nostrils and reached out to hand it to Lourdes. "You want a bump?" He asked.
Now he was testing her. He wanted to see how far she'd go. Without hesitation Lourdes grabbed the bullet and took a sniff. Instantly the burning sensation hit her. She grabbed her face pinching her nose and quickly handed it back to Pullo.
"Oh shit, I thought it was going to be...what the hell is that?"
Pullo put the bullet back in the box and put it in his pocket. "You're a lot more fun than I remember you being." He came around the side of the counter and stood very close to her. Lourdes was still pinching her nose and trying to stay in control of the alcohol and drugs that were rushing through her body. Pullo put his arms around her and pulled her close to his chest. Lourdes closed her eyes and stood there for a second resting against him. He was trying to calm her down to help her ride the drugs more smoothly. A little trick that Albear would do for her when she was overwhelmed by one of his special cocktails. And it was working. She suddenly felt calm and the drugs were starting to take her over in a good way. She pulled back slightly, but Pullo was still held her close. He closed his eyes too. She could tell the whiskers on his face were rough, and normally she hated kissing men who hadn't shaved, but she was willing to make an exception. She wanted nothing more but to feel his face on her skin, to feel it between her thighs. She had to stifle back a laugh. Damn it felt hot in here. She tried to push the thoughts out of her mind, the drugs were going to her head already.
Their noses were touching and their lips were so close together, Lourdes thought that he was going to kiss her, but he started talking instead. "Thanks for being here. You're the first person I was actually glad to see."
"What about Jasper and Lolita?" Lourdes whispered.
"That goes without saying, I love my brother and Lita is great. But who are all of those people in the other room?"
"They're your friends." Lourdes said.
"Maybe friends from another lifetime. I don't know them anymore."
Lourdes pulled back from Pullo, this time he let her go. "Then I guess I would fall into that category too."
"You were never like those people out there." He said matter of factly.
Lourdes shrugged her shoulders. "You don't even know me."
Pullo's green eyes studied her again, long enough to make her nervous. "Well we'll have to change that won't we." He walked back over to her, standing inches too close, so that she knew his intentions were more than friendly. "And," he went on, "I think that we know each other a lot better than we did a few minutes ago."
Lourdes laughed nervously.
"Stay we me and enjoy the party. We'll catch up, you can be my wing-man."
There was a knock on the door. Lourdes walked over to unlock it, while Pullo put the whiskey back in the freezer. She opened the door and Christina walked in carrying a tray with dirty dishes. "Everything all good in here?" She asked to no one in particular, while she set the dishes in the sink.
"Yep." Lourdes said getting back to work as Christina started making dishwater. She glanced at Pullo as he excused himself from the room. He gave her a devilish grin and floated out the door.
Christina turned off the faucet and grabbed Lourdes by the arm. "Listen girlie, I don't know what you think you're doing but you better get your head back on straight."
"What are you talking about?" Lourdes asked innocently.
"Honey, I wasn't born yesterday. I know that you've been hanging out with that bad influence Albear and his band of brothers. And I'm sure he's chalked your head full of nonsense about staying single and multiple partners-"
"Christina-" Lourdes started to say, laughing, but Christina kept going.
"I don't know what you are doing with a fella like that," she said referring to Pullo, "but he has trouble written all over him and you are here working."
"We weren't doing anything. He wanted a real drink because he was nervous and he locked the door because he didn't want his brother to see."
"Hmph." Christina said crossing her arms and leaning against the sink. "So nothing happened?"
"No. Nothing happened."
Christina walked over to Lourdes and leaned against her shoulder to shoulder. "Well I have to tell ya' I'm glad. Cause if I was twenty years younger and with a fella like that, I'd be on my back on this counter with my legs up in the air."
"Christina!" Lourdes shrieked, laughing out loud.
"I'm serious," Christina said laughing also, going back to the dishes, "you have to watch out for guys like that."
"Listen CC, why don't you let me take care of this. It was so great of you to come in early and set-up, but I think that I can take over from here."
"You sure honey?" Christina asked drying her hands on a towel.
"Yep. I got it covered."
"Okay dear," Christina said taking off her apron and grabbing her purse, "I will leave out the back so I won't disturb the party."
"Okay, I'll call you later."
Christina kissed Lourdes on the cheek, squeezing her arm and turned to go out the back door. "You behave yourself."
"Yes ma'am."
She waived goodbye and walked out.
The party went on for a couple of hours and began to die down. Lourdes was roaming around the house with Lolita.
Lita had confessed to Lourdes that she didn't really know the people here and she was more than willing to give a tour around the house to escape the mingling. They passed a few bedrooms, a game room where some people were playing Nintendo Wii. But they ended up outside by the pool, which to Lourdes, was the by far the best part of the house. The pool was surrounded by very tall trees and exotic plants for privacy, with a small jacuzzi off to the side of it. Jasper, Pullo and two other people were also outside talking and laughing and smoking cigars.
Lita pulled out a long lawn chair and they both sat down on it. Lita lit up a joint, took a puff and handed it to Lourdes. "So I think that Pullo likes you."
"What could possibly give you that idea." Lourdes asked instantly intrigued. She looked over at Pullo. He was watching her. He lifted up his beer in the air and toasted to her. She smiled.
"Because he gave me the third degree about you the first chance he got me alone."
"What did he want to know?"
"Oh the usual. He wanted to know if you had a boyfriend? If you were dating anybody? Basicly if I thought that he had a chance at all with you."
"He said that? He really asked you that?" Lourdes tried to calm down. She was coming off too interested. She took a drag off the joint and handed it back to Lita.
"Well I may have over exaggerated the last part a bit. But it's clear that he's into you."
Lourdes looked over at Jasper and Pullo. They were talking excitedly. She got the feeling that it was about them.
"So what did you tell him?"
"What could I tell him? I had to tell him the truth, that today was the first time that I met you, but I'm sure that we'll be best buds and I promised to pump you for as much information as I possibly could."
Lourdes laughed.
"So," Lita said leaning in close to her, "what do you think about our boy? Kind of sexy right?"
"He does have a lot of sex appeal, doesn't he?" Lourdes exclaimed.
"Yeah." Lita gushed. "He's hot. This is kind of what I wanted to talk about to you earlier. Jasper really wanted Pullo to feel at home today, so we were hoping that it would do him good to be around friends."
"You said that this was a welcome home party. Where has he been this whole time?"
Lita became quiet as if she didn't know how to answer the question, but she quickly perked up and put a smile on her face. "Um, he was overseas. Military I believe."
"Like fighting in the war?"
"Yeah, something like that. We don't talk about it very much, it's all very hush hush."
"I see." Lourdes said, not understanding at all.
Pullo came walking over to them. "Why so serious ladies?"
Lourdes and Lita smiled on cue.
"It looks like you two could use a drink." Pullo said.
"What a good idea!" Lita jumped up. "I'll get them. Be right back." She went bouncing back into the house and closed the door behind her. Pullo sat down next to Lourdes in Lita's place.
"I think there's a plot to give us some alone time." He sat so close, their legs were touching. Lourdes knew that she should be on her way home, but now that Pullo was sitting next to her, there was no way in hell her feet was going to take her anywhere.
Pullo looked around as if he was bored, never once looking at her. So Lourdes stared straight ahead pretending not to notice that their knees were still touching. The fact that she even still had a knee. She smiled to herself trying not to laugh.
"The food was great." Pullo finally said.
"Thank you." Lourdes said quickly.
He still stared off into the distance. Lourdes wondered what kind of game he was playing? She liked that he was cool, but maybe he was playing it, too cool. That could become obnoxious very quickly.
Just talk about something, anything. She thought to herself, but her mind was blank. A hot guy always did that to her.
Pullo spoke again. "Everybody is going to be leaving soon, would you like to stay for dinner?"
Lourdes beamed and turned in towards him. "I can't." She said. This, got his attention. Now, he was looking right at her. "I have plans tonight, a previous commitment. But maybe another time." She looked him right in the eye, smiling with hers. "I should probably get going."
Pullo didn't say anything for a moment, but when he finally did, it was, "I'll walk you out."
They both stood up and made their way through the house. Some people had left, but Lita was still mixing drinks in the kitchen. She handed them both a glass as they continued to make their way through the house. Before they reached the living room, Pullo opened one of the bedroom doors, grabbed Lourdes' hand and pulled her inside. There were suitcases by the bed, Lourdes assumed that this was the room he was crashing in while he was here.
Pullo went across the room and leaned against a dresser while Lourdes had her back pressed to the door. She wasn't quite sure what was going on but, maybe he was still ballsy like she remembered.
"Before you go," he said, "I just wanted to ask you something."
"OK." Lourdes said, back still up against the door. Her legs felt so heavy she didn't think that she could move. Her heart was starting to beat faster. She took a sip of her drink.
"I feel like there's something here between me and you and I just wanted to know if you felt the same way?"
"You're very blunt." Lourdes blurted out surprised by his forwardness.
Pullo pushed himself off the dresser, set his drink down and came closer. "I thought that we shared a moment earlier."
"We did." Lourdes looked down, quietly saying. But she lifted her head back up with confidence. This wasn't time to be a shy little girl if she wanted this very hot man to make a move on her. And he was still coming closer.
"When I want something, I go for it." He said.
"Are you saying that you want me?" Lourdes grasped her drink tightly waiting for an answer.
Pullo stopped in front of her. He pulled the glass out of her hand and went to sit it down next to his. He walked over to the edge of the bed and sat down. He pulled the blue satin box out of his pocket and placed it on his lap. "Do you really have to leave this very moment?" He asked her. That look of danger was back in his eyes.
Lourdes slowly shook her head no.
Pullo patted the side of the bed next to him. "Come here and sit down next to me." He said. "I wanna talk to you about something."
Albear was blaring on the car horn. "I can't believe I let you talk me into picking you up during rush hour." He honked the horn again. "Where the fuck are we going anyway?"
Lourdes looked out the window at the flashing lights of the city. Albear's voice was a million miles away. Her head was filled with devilish thoughts of Pullo. Boy was he sexy and could talk a good game. She wondered when he would call? If he would call. Glancing back out the window, the sun was going down and the sky was filled with a pink and purple sunset.
"I swear if you don't answer me right now, I'm going to kick you out this fucking car without stopping."
Lourdes turned to Albear. "Oh please, please, please come with me tonight?"
"No way." Albear said. "Nothing makes my dick more soft than hanging around a bunch of happy heteros."
Lourdes pointed her finger out to the upcoming block. "Make a right up here."
"I'll tell you what," he said, "why don't you blow off your boring plans and come out with us tonight."
Lourdes shook her head. Us, had to be the boys, and as tempting as the idea was, people were counting on her presence. "You know that I can't do that. They're expecting me."
"So? Who cares if you miss a dinner party."
"You don't understand."
"Well enlighten me princess."
"When you have a social circle and you make commitments, you are obligated to show up. When you blow people off, eventually you're just considered a flake and people stop inviting you into their lives. And don't call me princess."
Albear laughed. "These people are boring, they're not your kind. I guarantee fifteen minutes into the party and you'll be wishing that you were with me."
Lourdes pointed for Albear to make another turn. "Your arrogance never ceases to amaze me."
"Since when do you care about fitting in with the A crowd so much? You never use to care what people think."
"It's not about that."
"Then what is it about? Huh? The guys are always asking about you. I'm always covering for you and it's lame. You won't even tell me the whole truth."
Lourdes looked out of the window. What was she suppose to say? That she was a cheat, a whore? And worst of all, she didn't even feel bad about it. Of course Albear wouldn't judge her, but if she talked about it completely, then it wouldn't be hers, it wouldn't be a secret anymore. And she desperately needed some things in her life to be private. So, instead she blurted out, "Gabriel and Alexsander are both going to be at this dinner tonight, and they are both expecting me to be there."
"Shit." Albear said. "This might be something actually worth seeing. If I come with you, how many sexually confused guys do you think I'll have a chance of nailing?"
"Never mind." Lourdes said. "It was a bad idea to invite you in the first place. Forgive me I had a moment of weakness."
Albear turned the corner and came to a stop. "We're here, get out."
Lourdes looked around. She was early. Early and nervous. "I thought I saw a bar a block back. Why don't we get a drink before you take off?"
Albear frowned up and shrugged his shoulders. "I can get a drink on the other side of town."
"Come on Albear! Going to a straight bar is not going to kill you, I know that you're a hetero-phobe, but sometimes you do have to live in the real world."
Albear opened his car door. "I'll make you a deal, we go and have a drink and you have to answer at least 5 questions that I have."
"Two." Lourdes said.
"Four." Albear said.
"Three." They both said at the same time.
Lourdes swung open the car door and got out. Albear was already out of his work clothes. He had changed out of his four thousand dollar Armani suit, and into his prowling outfit. He was wearing his favorite leather jacket, black shirt, and black jeans. His hair always seemed to be perfectly in place, whereas Lourdes struggled every day to maintain perfectly polished locks. She looked her reflection over in the car window, she'd hoped that her Whitney Port, little black dress didn't scream too sexy. She had brought a change of clothing to the lunch party, so that she would be ready for tonight's festivities. She changed clothes at Jasper's house before leaving.
In Pullo's bedroom.
She let him watch her undress and redress. It was quite possibly the sexiest thing that she had ever done for a man without touching. He loved it. He wanted her just as badly as she wanted him at that moment, but instead they both chose to let the intimacy work as prolonged foreplay. Or they could have been just too fucked up to go any further. She pulled her long red wool coat tighter. It was chilly this evening.
Albear walked around the side of the car and hooked his arm around hers. He kissed her on the side of her head. "You look fabulous. Come on, let's go get you drunk before dinner."
Once they were inside and seated, Albear wasted no time asking questions.
"When is the last time that you committed a sexual act, who was it with, and what did you do?"
"First of all," Lourdes began saying, "I'm gonna need a drink before I dish anything. Second, we agreed on 3 questions, not multiple three-parter questions.
Albear leaned forward, dark brown eyebrows animated. "Stop being such a chicken shit and answer the question."
Just then the waiter brought their drinks. He was a twink and had been cruising Albear since the moment they arrived. He was young, maybe twenty years old, just like Albear liked them. He was also average height and blond, also like Albear liked them. No place was safe in the city. Albear was sex on a stick and he attracted guys like magnets. The waiter sat down Lourdes' double vodka on the rocks and turned to set down Albear's scotch. He slowly sat down the drink, leaning in close to Albear and giving him an inviting smile. Lourdes rolled her eyes. They were never going to finish their conversation with Albear distracted.
"Please, please, please don't fuck the server, when you are supposed to be lending me support." Lourdes exclaimed.
Albear watched the waiter walk away before he responded to her. "I'm still waiting for you to answer my question." He was still ignoring her. "Fine Albear!" Lourdes said irritated. "I kissed a guy no less than 2 hours ago, he was the brother of the guys party that I catered, and now I have to go to this other dinner party very soon and all you can do is think about getting your dick sucked!" Albear picked up his drink looking intrigued. "So what? You kissed a guy, it's hardly a crime." He was baiting her and she knew it. But she fell for it anyway. "I didn't just kiss him.
