"I certainly hope not." Alexsander said standing in the bedroom doorway.
Lourdes spun around fast. He was leaning against the door frame with his arms crossed smiling at her. How long had he been there? Why was he here? He was dressed much nicer than usual. His hair, grown in a little more, was even combed the way she liked it. Obviously here to win back some points.
"I promise to be on my best behavior." Albear said into the phone.
"I gotta go." Lourdes said hanging up on him. She let the phone drop down to her waist-side and stuck it in her pocket.
"I thought you were in L.A. What are you doing here?" She asked, after the initial shock had wore off.
"You don't call, you don't write, I thought you might be here." He said shrugging his shoulders and taking a step inside.
"How did you get in? I thought I locked the door."
Alex held up a key. "In case of emergencies." He said. "Where you been sexy?"
"Busy." She said trying to walk past him out of the room and into the hallway.
"Wait, hold on." He said stopping her so they could embrace. His body felt strong up against hers. He smelled wonderful.
Lourdes knew that she would run into Alex eventually, she just hadn't counted on it being today. She made the decision not to even bring up the fact that she knew about the girlfriend. She'd figured, silence was golden.
He followed her into the front of the house as she started to unload some groceries.
"Getting things in order?" He asked.
"Yeah."
"Need some help?"
"No thanks." She took the produce out of a bag, trying not to look him in the eye. She could already feel her anger rising. She set a head of lettuce to the side and pulled out a tomato to put in the crisper, when it slipped out of her had and crashed to the floor.
"Shit." She muttered under her breath, while quickly trying to clean up the mess.
"Here, let me help you." He said watching her.
"I got it." She said over her shoulder.
Once she tossed the paper towels and splattered tomato away, Alex came up behind her and put his hands on her shoulders. Just the feel of his fingers made her tingle. She closed her eyes and exhaled quickly, hating herself for still wanting to touch him.
He kissed the back of her neck softly. She tensed up immediately.
"What's wrong?" He asked.
"Don't." She said.
"Why?"
"Just don't."
He took his hands off of her, trying to figure out what her problem was. Lourdes went back to putting the groceries away.
He took a step back and leaned up against the refrigerator, blocking her way from putting the milk into it. She focused on his black t-shirt, avoiding eye contact while he smiled at her, trying to get her to smile back at him.
"Excuse me." She said, trying to reach around him for the door handle, but he wouldn't move until she looked at him.
"What?" She asked finally looking at him.
"Okay let's do this." He said taking the milk out of her hand and putting it in the fridge himself. He closed the door and turned back to face her.
"Do what?" She said stepping back and pulling her hair out of a ponytail to release some tension.
"Let's get into it." He said.
"I have nothing to say."
"Hm." He nodded. "You say your busy, you don't respond to my emails, all of a sudden you have no time for me-"
"So?" She said cutting him off. "Your not even suppose to be in town."
"You don't answer my messages, you won't take my calls, you're barely even looking at me right now."
Lourdes put one hand on her hip and glared at him.
"Fuck," he said, "whatever it is, do I even wanna know?"
"There's nothing to tell," she said, "not everything is about you." Her cell phone started to ring.
"Well then it's about you." He said. "Cause somethings up."
"I'm fine." She said with attitude turning away from him. She looked down at her phone, it was Albear calling, she pressed ignore.
He came closer to her.
"Look I have things to do Alex, so if you don't want anything-"
"Are those other things that you're doing on that phone call that you didn't want to answer?"
"What is it to you?" She asked.
He laughed in disbelief. "Do I have to remind you?" He said sweetly putting his hand on the back of her arm, squeezing softly. He tilted her chin up to face him. "What did I do, that would make you want to forget me so soon?" He kissed her on the cheek. Lourdes said nothing. His lips were soft and wet. His stubble make her shiver. She could feel herself caving. He stopped squeezing her arm and let his hand rest on her shoulder. He ran his thumb slowly along the outline of her collar bone. She closed her eyes as he softly kissed between her neck and shoulder.
Her phone rang again. Lourdes opened her eyes and jerked away from him.
"What?!" He said. "Who is that?"
"No one." She said.
"Then turn the fucking mobile off." He was starting to get upset, his accent was showing through.
Lourdes raised her eyebrows at him and shook her head, daring him to stop her. She picked up the phone and answered. "What!" She said.
"I found the address bitch, I'm on my way!" Albear yelled into the phone.
"Alby don't you fucking come over here, I mean it!" She yelled back.
Alexsander snatched the cell out of her hand. He closed it shut and gripped it tightly in his hand.
"Give that back to me." She said reaching for the phone, but he kept holding it higher in the air.
"Who the fuck do you think you are?" Lourdes said very coolly, trying not to freak out.
"I'm the bloke your fucking!" He yelled, "who the fuck is he?" Alex held the cell phone up, accusingly. "Are you two screwing each other?"
"Of course not!"
"Then in what insane world does he take priority over me?!"
There were at least five insults that she could think of to take his ego down a notch, but she thought better of it. She walked over to the kitchen window and looked out for a moment.
It was dark and quiet. She couldn't believe that he was doing this when he didn't have a leg to stand on.
She turned around to face him. "He's my friend," she said, "he loves me, he cares about me, he looks out for me..." She furrowed her brows at him. "Who are you?"
"Obviously nobody when it comes to him." Alex said holding up the cell phone again.
"That's right." She said crossing her arms over her chest.
"Your at his beck and call, you do anything he says-"
"Alex-"
"Everywhere I turn, I competing with some asshole, that shouldn't even be a threat to me!"
"Funny," she said interrupting him, "because he says all the same things about you."
That stopped him. "He knows about us? You told him!"
"I didn't have to tell him shit. He could have guessed by the way you were acting. Sin City, Alex! The Pride Diner! Why'd you ever have to get in his face, huh?"
"No." He said refusing to answer, intent on making his point. "I mean, what is it really about this guy, tell me? You like his charms, his looks, he's rich, whatever. We all have that. What is it about him that makes you eat up all his shite? He should let me in on his secret! Because I would really love to know, what it is that he has that I don't!"
Lourdes continued to glare at him. He was very upset with her and he had no right to be. It took everything inside her not to bring up what a hypocrite and a liar, he was being.
They were both hypocrites, both liars, both cheaters...
The phone started ringing again.
Alex laughed in disbelief.
Lourdes held out her hand so he could give it to her.
Instead he answered it. "Fuck off!" He yelled in the thickest accent she ever heard, and then he hung up the phone.
"Alexsander!" She yelled.
Lourdes' brown eyes widened as he walked up to her and shoved the phone back in her hand. His icy blue eyes were wild with anger, but she wasn't even close to backing down. He started to say something, but the words never left his tongue. He took a step back and started walking out of the room.
"Oh now you're leaving?" She said. "What? Without getting what you wanted?"
He kept going.
"Are you sure you wanna do that, I mean, you haven't gotten your dick sucked yet!"
He almost stopped, she smirked knowing her comment pissed him off, but he kept going.
"Alex!"
He had disappeared out of site.
"Great, that's great." She mumbled to herself. Her heart was pounding so fast. She held her breath waiting for the front door to slam shut. But it never did.
Lourdes held her breath for so long, she started to feel lightheaded, then she exhaled, gasping for oxygen. She tried to steady her heart beat but it wasn't working. She needed to focus on something. She put away the rest of the groceries, but she still wasn't calm. She opened the kitchen door and went outside to feel the cold night air. She closed the door behind her and sat down. She pulled a cigarette out of her pocket and lit up. She just needed a moment to think.
This was it, this was the moment where both of them could walked away and end things before the situation spiraled out of control. She could do it. It was possible. Life could go back to normal between her and Gabe and Alex could go back to his own life. That's it. That's the right decision. It was over. It was actually over the moment she found out he had a girlfriend really. Because she couldn't stomach the fact that he had somebody real in his life. Somebody that he could be out loud and in public with. Somebody that he loved...
She began to mentally prepare herself to go back in the house. Her body felt like led, almost as if she couldn't move.
The door swung open behind her and Alex stepped out. Lourdes stared straight ahead as he sat down next to her. If she could just open her mouth...if she could just get the words out...
"I'm going to take off." He finally spoke.
Lourdes nodded her head, wringing her hands together. That wasn't what she wanted to hear. "It's probably for the best. You never should have came in the first place."
"Bitch." He muttered under his breath while he stood back up.
"What did you just say?"
"I said you're acting like a bitch!"
"Don't you ever-"
"Oh what's the problem? Your girlfriends can call you that but I can't?" He spat out.
"No you fucking can't!" She said jumping up. "And fuck you with your girlfriends comment, I know what that means!" He swung open the door, laughing at her and went back into the house as she followed at his heels.
"And my friends never use that word with the same intention that you mean right now!" Lourdes continued.
He turned around so quickly, she almost slammed right into him. They were standing toe to toe. "I can think of a few other choice words, if it'll make you feel better." He said taunting her.
"Shoot your best shot motherfucker." She said putting both hand on her hips.
"What?" He said leaning in her face.
"You know, I don't think any of this is really about Albear," she said pulling her cell phone out as it started to ring again.
"Don't-" He tried to say, reaching for the phone. Lourdes jerked her hand away so he couldn't grab it. "Albear isn't a threat to you, any more than you are to him. If you ask me, this is about Gabriel."
He sucked his teeth, now he was the one avoiding eye contact.
"Yeah," she said, "all your little comments about me running errands, being at his beck and call, alone in his home making things more pleasant. All the type of shit that you want me doing for you..."
Alex rolled his eyes. "You're so naive and simplistic, to even think that way." He said coldly. His words burned her, but the look on his face said something different. It said she was right on the mark.
"While his friend throws a tantrum about who measures up more." Lourdes continued.
"You think that is what this is all about?" He asked. "Because I don't have any problems in that department. And nether do you."
"I don't give a shit what men think about their dicks!" She said enraged. "All I care about is why the biggest hypocrite in the world is trying to give me shit right now to soothe his own petty ego!"
Alex smiled. "You seemed to care not too long ago when you were polishing my nob, three times a day for me." He spoke so arrogantly, she wanted to hit him. He seemed completely unphased by her anger. It only made her madder. He started to turn his back on her and pick up a magazine.
"What's the matter?" She said mocking him. "Why are you really here? Can't find one of your Hollywood ho's to scratch that itch for you?"
"Don't go too far." He said.
"I mean I know I'm good, and you can go around telling yourself that your the man because we were fucking like bunnies for two minutes."
"Lourdes-"
"But we both know how much you begged for it..."
"Lourdes!"
"Every. Single. Time." She said looking him up and down as if he didn't mean shit. "And oh, it's been how long since you've gotten your fix?" She smiled. "You must be going crazy not being able to take what you want."
That was enough to piss him off. He threw the magazine down.
"You're so naive!" He said shaking his head. "And I can take what I want at any time."
"Bitch. naive, simplistic. Is that all you got? I mean, I'm sure you can come up with something better, given your extensive acting vocabulary."
"How dare you!" He said.
Lourdes stifled back a laugh. Guess he didn't like that one. She acted as if she was going to make a phone call and Alex took a step towards her. She took a step back smiling and closed the phone and put it back in her pocket.
"I'm not going to stand here and let you have a go at me." He said.
"Then why the fuck are you still here? I thought you were leaving." Now she was the one who was calm and he was angry. She felt better. She managed to turn the energy around. Now she could get him the fuck out of there without feeling like he won.
Alex looked at the front door, shoving his hands into his jean pockets, but he didn't move.
"Go ahead, off you go." She said in an European accent, dismissing him with her hand.
His jaw was clenched tight and he was starting to become red in the face. He took a step towards the door. Lourdes turned in the other direction, walking away to go back down the hallway and finish the rest of the work in the rooms. "Don't let the door it hit you in the ass, on the way out!" She called over her shoulder. She knew pressing his buttons, was probably the wrong way to go about this, but she couldn't stop herself. Footsteps pounded so loudly behind her as he rushed up towards her. Lourdes turned around right as he reached her. "Don't-" she started to say, putting her hands up. But it was too late, he grabbed both her arms, squeezing her wrist tightly as he forced her back. "Ahh!" She yelled as her back slammed hard against the wall. "Let me go!" She yelled.
"You fucking make me!" He said pinning her arms up against the wall also. "Lemme hear you talk that shite now!"
"Alex!"
"Go on!" He said. "What? I can't hear you!"
Lourdes struggled to get out of his grasp. But he was holding her too tightly. "You better fucking let me go!" She said. "Or I swear-"
"You'll what?! Huh? Let me hear what you'll fucking do!"
He was pissed. More angry than she had estimated. She had a choice, she could let him hold her there while he ranted and raved or she could knee him in the balls and break free. She didn't really think that he would hurt her, but he was fucking pissed now. She needed to think quickly and make the right decision.
But she was fucking pissed too.
She went for option 3. Lourdes turned towards the right wrist that he was pinning against the wall and she sunk her teeth into his flesh as hard as she could.
"Ouch!" He yelled instantly loosening his grip. She jerked free of his other hand and tried to push him off her. She was no more than a few steps away from him, when he grabbed her by the back of her hair and yanked her back towards him.
"Ahhh fuck!" She screamed reaching up to claw at his hands as he pushed her this time face forward into the wall. "You fucking bastard, let me go!"
Alex laughed pressing himself up against her so that she could barely move. Barely breathe. He took his foot and kicked her legs further apart so that she was off balance. His laughter and rough housing was almost enough to send her back into a rage again. But she stopped struggling and layed still against the wall. He let go of her hair but still had her pinned. She let her hands fall to her sides as she tried to catch her breath. They were both panting hard. Alex's breath was hot on her neck.
Lourdes was starting to calm down when Alex reached both hands in front of her and squeezed her breast hard. He laughed, knowing it would piss her off and send her postal. "Ahh! You motherfucker!" She screamed trying to get away from him, but he had twisted her arm and pulled it behind her back, keeping her locked in place.
"That's right," he said in her ear as she tried to jerk her head away, "keep fighting, tell me again how I can't take what I want."
"You bastard!" She said trying to twist away from him. He reached in front of her, unbuttoning her jeans while he held her other arm behind her back.
"Bitch!" Lourdes grunted trying to wiggle away from him.
"Keep fighting," he said pressing himself even more up against her, "it'll just make my dick harder."
Lourdes let out one more scream. Just when she thought she couldn't take it anymore, he let her arm go and pushed himself off her. She flung around, breathing hard, clutching her arm to her chest, with her back pressed against the wall. Alex studied her. He was much calmer, but on guard, just in case she lunged at him. But she stayed pressed against the wall, collecting herself. He came towards her and cupped her face in his hands. "Let's call a truce." He said. "Yes?" He nodded his head hoping she would agree. "We can both go back and forth like this all night, but we both know that in the end, I'll win."
She looked him in the eyes and nodded her head slowly. Defeated.
He began to walk away from her, when she stuck her leg out to trip him. As he went flying in the other direction to eat shit, Lourdes ran down the hallway to the back of the house. She didn't turn to look back, but she heard something crashing to the floor. She ran out the back door and around the side of the house. There were sounds of foot scuffling, close behind her. She kept moving, afraid that if she stopped to laugh Alex would catch her. He may have been fucking with her before, unbuttoning her pants and acting like he was going to attack her, but she was pretty sure, if he got a hold of her this time, it would be a different story.
She reached the front of the house, running uncontrollably, and ran smack into Tyler and Lamont .
"Whoa! Honey where are you going?" Lamont said grabbing hold of her.
"I was just...uh..." She panted, not sure what to say, trying to catch her breath.
"Are you alright?" Tyler asked also trying to hold her up.
"What the fuck is going on?" Lourdes turned to the side and saw Albear and Corey standing at the foot of the sidewalk. They were leaning against Albear's car and Tyler's was parked right behind it. "I tried to call," Alby said holding up his cell phone, "to let you know we were here."
"Yeah," Tyler said, "we were just about to knock on the door."
Just then, Alex came flying around the corner. They all turned to look. Lourdes smiled at him. Game over.
He managed to stop himself from shooting across the lawn, once he spotted the boys, but he couldn't hide his anger.
"Were we interrupting something?" Corey asked looking back and forth between Lourdes and Albear.
"No." She exhaled smiling, cutting her eyes at Alex. He stood on the lawn not looking at anybody else but her.
"I was just um...taking out the trash," she paused and looked at Alex one more time, "and I saw a mouse and freaked and we both went running."
"Is that what happened?" Albear asked Lourdes not believing a word of it. She nodded her head quickly. "But you're here now, so I'll just get my things and we will be off!" She turned to go in the house. Alex took a step to go in with her.
"Wait." Alby said. They both stopped and turned. "Where's your boyfriend?" He asked.
Lourdes turned back to Albear, pleading at him with her eyes not to do this. "Gabe is away right now so he left us to take care of things."
"Wow, you all must be very close," Alby exaggerated, "what guest are you expecting again?"
Alexsander said nothing.
"They're friends of Gabe's." Lourdes said. "And some family to him." She nodded in Alex's direction. He raised his eyebrows at her, unaware that she knew who was coming. "Everybody is excited, we just want the house to look nice. But you know guys anyway, I'm sure they won't care or even notice what the decor looks like."
"So why all the trouble?" Albear asked.
"Well I've been informed that there is one very special person arriving." She said smiling even though it was killing her.
"Her name is Celia, right?" She said locking eyes with Alex. "Your girlfriend is also coming into town for a visit, if I'm not mistaken?"
She saw the realization take over his face about why she was so upset with him. She could have shot him with and gun and the expression of pain on his face would have been no different. But did he feel bad because he knew how much he hurt her, or just because he was caught?
She knew in that very moment that all the fight was taken out of him. She could walk back into that house and be completely safe with him for the rest of the night. The look on his face was priceless. Lourdes turned and walked into the house.
