Chapter 4: Inside of my head
The sun shadows my eyes and I squint them as I wake up.
The room is fully lit up.
I slowly and sleepily pull the covers off of my body and turn out of bed to get to my feet.
I yawned and rub my eyes and get up to walk to the door.
I open it and make my way to go downstairs.
Right downstairs, I'm in the living room.
I stop and my eyes grow wide as I stare at the unknown figure laying across my couch.
Um…what the fucking hell?
"Who the hell are you?" I asked.
The figure didn't move.
I walked over to the figure and punched it hard and the person sat up and it made me jump.
He was breathing hard as he turned his head towards me.
My eyes grew even wider if it was possible.
The guy from last night.
His eyes were ice blue.
"What-" He looked around him. "What the fuck?"
"My thoughts exactly. What the hell are you doing on my couch?"
"I got here on my own?"
"I guess so." I shrugged.
His breathing calmed.
"Fuck." He got to his feet. His shirt was ripped and so were his pants.
"How did you even get in?"
"Good fucking question." He looked around my house and placed his hand across his forehead. "My fucking head is killing me."
"Want some Advil?" I asked. He looked to me. "No, I'd rather just get the fuck out of here if you don't mind."
"You came in my house if you don't recall."
"No, I literally do not recall coming here."
"You want some of my brother's clothes?" I asked.
He glared at me. "No." He looked at me and then around the room and started to head for the door.
"Wait." I said.
He sighed and turned. "What?" He asked in irritation.
"What was happening to you last night? Your eyes….your skin….it was.."
"I don't know, okay? I don't know what the hell was happening nor do I care." He walked to the door, opened it, and slammed it shut.
Aiden Valentino's POV
I slammed the door of that bitch's house shut closed and fell to my knees in front of her house.
I placed my hands against my ear. I heard an odd static noise and a high pitched noise and then an echo that hurted my ears.
I screamed out and kept my hands on my ears.
What the fuck was going on?
A weird loud, echo filled my ears and a voice filled my head. I took my hands off my ears to concentrate on what the hell I was hearing.
I breathed out and tried to listen.
It was a female voice in my head.
What the hell?
I slowly got to my feet and looked around to see where the voice was coming from but it was only inside of me.
I looked down at myself and placed my hand on my head to try to get my thoughts together but they were blank. All I could think about was the voice I was hearing in my head.
I squeezed my eyes tight.
A door opened behind me and the woman stepped out. "Do you want some clothes?" She asked.
That's when I realized it was the same voice.
"Shut up." I said as I fully turned towards her and walked to her.
She stared up at me staying quiet.
What is he doing? Why is he being so rude? I hope he doesn't think I brought him here myself because he actually scares the crap out of me. What was wrong him last night?
"Last night?" I asked.
The woman blinked. "Excuse me?"
"Last night? What happened to me last night?"
She stared at me and tilted her head to the side. "I never said anything about last night." She whispered.
I took a step back. "I heard you."
"What?" She asked.
"I heard you say 'What was wrong with him last night' What happened?"
She blinked again and parted her lips. "You can read my thoughts?" She asked in a quiet tone.
What the hell was she talking about? Reading thoughts? Do I look like that fucking vampire from that movie?
"Um, no. I heard you say…."
"I was thinking it I never said it." She said.
I stared at her trying to get my head together.
"Think something else." I ordered.
She looked around and then met eyes with me.
I know this may seem crazy. I don't understand it either. Last night I found you on the road bleeding and your eyes changed colors and you had a fever. I don't know what was wrong with you and somehow you ended up on my couch this morning.
I stared at her and she blinked back at me. "I was bleeding in the middle of the road." I said in monotone.
She nodded. "I wanted to help you but you growled at me. So I left.
I did come back to make sure you were okay. You owe me a gun by the way."
"You threw my gun."
"I liked that one. My friend that died gave me that one."
"Tough luck." I turned around and walked away. Okay, this shit is a little too crazy for me. I'm just going to take my ass to sleep and when I wake up, I'll be okay again.
Get back here you Dipshit.
I turned and balled up my fist. "Who the fuck are you calling dipshit, skank?" I growled at her.
She stared at me unaffected by my obvious anger.
"I had to get your attention." She said as she walked closer to me.
I stared down at her.
"That gun meant a lot to me. And it's the only one I have left. Please find it."
"How the hell am I supposed to find it?"
"Because you're the one who threw it, dumbass."
"Call me another dumbass."
"Dumbass." She said again.
I narrowed my eyes at her. She's kind of tough for a chick. Either that or she isn't scared of me.
"Where did you find me last night?"
"Around Lakewood Avenue. Just in the middle. I think you might have came out of the woods." She said.
I sighed and closed my eyes. "You said I growled at you?"
She nodded. "Your eyes were changing colors."
"Am I..uh…." I hope to god I'm not a fucking vampire because that will suck so much ass.
"No…vampires are cold. You're hot." She said.
I smirked at her.
She gave me a look. "No. No. That's not what I meant."
I rolled my eyes. "Sure."
"I think you should go to the hospital….after you find my gun."
"I don't have to do shit you say. Buy another like I said."
"It was unique and had the only kind of bullets that can kill a vampire."
"What kind of bullets?"
"Mercury." She said. Mercury? Like the element on the periodic table? Damn, I wish I would have passed Chemistry class.
"What color was it?"
"Silver and gold." She answered.
"Then go out and buy a gun and some spray paint.
Then …good as new." I smiled and then turned and walked away from her.
Get back here.
"Not working this time." I called as I continued down the street.
I stared after the guy.
I didn't expect for any of that to happen. He can read my thoughts.
I didn't want to get back involved with this kind of thing. I moved here hoping for somewhat of a normal life and it doesn't look like I'm going to get it.
Nick's car pulled up into my driveway and I watched him as he got out of the car.
"Hey, what's wrong with you?" He asked.
"Where's your shirt?" I asked.
"Where's your personality?"
"Shut up." I said as I led him into my house.
He closed my fridge and brought out my gallon of orange juice and chugged it. After he was done, he slammed it down on the counter and smiled. "Guess who I fucked last night?"
"Does it look like I really care?" I asked.
Nick shook his head. "No, but I'm gonna tell you anyway."
I rolled my eyes as I mixed the cinnamon into the egg mix.
I stopped and stared at him. "What? She forgave you?"
He nodded. "Oh she forgave me alright." He said with the widest smile I've ever seen.
"So she's still pissed at me?"
He shrugged. "I told her not to be. You were just protecting her, Lee."
"She doesn't see it as that way. And its not fair because you kept it from her too yet she forgave you by having causal sex with you yet…with me, she treats me like I'm fucking invisible."
"Want me to call her to bring her over here?" he asked.
I shook my head. "No. Let her come over by herself." I said.
Nick sat in his chair and nodded. "So, for Halloween, what's your costume."
"I'm twenty two. I won't have a costume."
"Come on, why not? I'm going as Satan."
"The annual Halloween party that one hotel has every fucking year."
I nodded. "Oh yeah, the one I'm not going to."
Nick sighed. "When the hell are you going to get a life?"
"Dressing up as a devil or angel does not make me have a life. It makes me look stupid."
Nick rolled his eyes.
I sat in the corner of the new club James opened. Another 'Bloodlust' But upgraded.
Christian was throwing back shots of blood and slam the glass down on the bar.
He slowly looked to me.
His eyes grew wide as he looked behind me.
I turned to where his eyes looked and a slow smile appeared on my face as my friend appeared in the bar.
Svetlana, beautiful, raven hip length hair and bright blue eyes appeared and walked through the club. People stepped back.
Humans and vampires.
Her eyes locked on mine. She didn't look happy.
Her pale skin fitted very well with her short black dress that showed off her long model-like legs.
Over the dress, she wore a fitted leather jacket and knee high black boots.
Her direction was turned toward me and Christian and her lips parted as she saw us.
As she approached us, Christian tensed up. He killed Alexander and he was scared shitless of Svetlana. Everyone was. She was almost over seven thousand years old.
She was the stronger than every vampire in this club tonight. A lot in the country.
She stopped in front of me and stared down at me. "Old friend." She nodded at me and I smiled and stood up. "Svetlana." I breathed. I worshipped her in a way I've never thought I'd worship a woman before.
She was everything to me. Not just a friend but a sister. And I know that Alexander died and I've done nothing about it but if Svetlana would have found out about what he tried to do, she probably would have killed him anyway. Me and her are way closer than her and Alexander. Plus we've known each other way longer.
Her eyes flickered beside me. "Christian. I'm surprised to see you back with Alison."
Christian stood and gave her his best fake smile.
"I love her." He said.
I looked at him.
Svetlana leaned against the bar. "Something happened half a year ago." She said.
A human girl walked passed us and Svetlana watched her every move and her blue eyes disappeared and melted to a dark red color.
Then she looked at me. "I felt Alexander." She said.
I raised my eyebrow. "Don't you always?" I asked.
"Not for the past six months. The last time I felt him…I felt his head being twisted." Her eyes slowly looked to me as they melted back to blue.
"He's dead?" I asked.
Svetlana nodded. "I can't feel him anymore so I know he is. I had some business to take care of for the last few months and I was unable to look into what happened but I know what happened. And the last person that should have saw him was your friend, Christian."
Christian's eyes narrowed.
"Remy asked for weapons and Alexander brought them to him."
Wait…Remy got those weapons from her? Was she even aware of why he wanted them?
"You gave Remy weapons?" Christian asked with annoyance in his voice.
Svetlana watched. "Yes, he said to have Alexander bring them over yet he didn't want me in the middle of the situation. The question is….where is he now?"
Christian shrugged. "Ask Remy or Leena."
Svetlana narrowed her eyes. "Who the fuck is Leena?"
"Little girl who was obsessed with Christian."
"Where is she?"
"Not here. North America in Malison, Florida. Christian responded.
"You think she has something to do with his death?"
I nodded and Christian slowly nodded too.
Svetlana looked down to the floor. "If the both of you are lying to me, no matter how much I may give a fuck about the both of you," Her eyes dilated. "I'll kill you both."
Christian just stared at her and as did I. It was very rare that Svetlana threatens us. But she does it only when she thinks its necessary.
"Over a human, Svetlana?" I asked.
She glared at me. "Yes. Alexander means a lot to me and is more trustworthy than any vampire I've ever met in my life. So yes, Alison, over a damn human," She looked to Christian. "Where in Malison Florida?" She asked.
I looked to Christian and he shut his eyes for a moment.
I glanced at Svetlana who stayed focused on him.
I looked back to Christian. "Malison, Florida 4159 Acren Street. That's where I see her." He said and then slowly opened his eyes.
Svetlana nodded and then took a deep breath. She started to walk off but she stopped and turned. "If you're lying to me right now, you should just tell me. It'll piss me off if you spare me the truth." She said.
Christian looked into her eyes. "I am telling the truth."
Svetlana then looked to me.
I nodded. "I know everything he knows."
She narrowed her eyes at me and sighed softly. "Fine." Before another blink, she disappeared from our sight.
I know she'll learn the truth soon. I'm just scared of what she'll do when she figures it out. Will she kill me or Christian? Or the both of us?
