Chapter 12: Knowledge
I decided to get it over with.
The sooner I get it over with, the sooner this can be over. The sooner I get back to Leena.
As soon as I walked up the path on the way to Svetlana's home, two guards greeted me.
I stared at them.
One had light blonde hair. Way too bright to fit his face while the other had dark blue hair.
"And who are you?" The dark blue haired one asked.
"Christian Monroe. I'm good friends with Svetlana. I need to tell her something."
The blonde one's phone rang.
He flipped it open and placed it to his ear. "Yes?"
He waited for a second then nodded and flipped the phone shut.
"Go in. She'll be out of her room in a few minutes." He said.
"Thank you." I walked passed them and to the door. I looked back at them while pushing the door open.
The place has always been big. I believe she's been living here for a thousand years.
Maybe two thousand. I wasn't sure.
I knew where the place for business was and it was in her dining room. I walked through the pearl white arch way that led to the dining room and took a look at the long dining table that was longer than a football field.
She sure does flaunt her money.
I pulled a chair out and sat down.
I reached into my pocket and pulled my phone out.
I should call Leena before right now but it was too late.
I can hear Svetlana coming from a mile away.
Well from three floors up.
As I hear her descend the stairs, she's now walking in the room.
She smiles as she sees me. Its not a smile that touches her eyes.
Her dark hair is swinging as she walks and she has on a red silk dress that hugs her body perfectly.
The train of her dress flows behind her on the floor as she walks and she stops beside me and look down at me. Her blue eyes are staring down at me and she looks perfect…as always.
"Christian, what brings you here? You haven't been in here in over a century."
I nodded remembering. Oh….right. The last time I was here, we fucked each other.
I remember perfectly.
"Right." I say.
"Where's Alison? I thought you two were inseparable."
Obviously not. The bitch is dead now.
"That's what I'm here to talk to you about."
"Make it quick. I think I got a new lead of who might know what happened to my Alexander."
"I know." I said. Here we go. The decapitation of my head.
"What? You told me in 'Bloodlust' that you didn't know who did it. You and Alison both said that. I told you to never lie to me, Christian."
"I'm the one who killed him." I said. If I die, I die.
Svetlana stared down at me, her face expression blank.
Yeah, she's completely frozen. Not even breathing. Not like she even has to.
But I kept my eyes on her.
"You killed him." It wasn't a question.
But I nodded. "I did."
"Oh. Okay." She whispered.
"So, are you going to kill me?"
She nodded. "Yes. But just explain to me….why the fuck would you do that to me, Christian?"
"Blame Alison too. She used my blood to gain control over me. She had me hypnotized back into how I was when I was first turned. You and I both know that I wouldn't do that. The real me would never hurt you in that way."
"So where is she?" Svetlana said glaring at me and her voice got a higher one note.
"Dead." I answered.
She raised her eyebrow and smiled. "What?" She chuckled.
"I killed her because of all that she did. James was anticipating it I think."
Svetlana narrowed her eyes and looked up at the ceiling. "Is this really reality? Am I hearing right? You killed my best friend of five hundred years?" She asked.
"Svetlana, she was trouble. You knew that."
"I don't give a fuck how much trouble she is. That's her problem. You killed-" She shook her head.
"My boyfriend and my best friend. What a record, Christian. What a fucking record." She said as she sighed.
"I'm sorry, Svetlana. I swear that I am."
"Oh you will be." She said.
I stared up at her as she stared back down at me.
There was a long silence for at least ten minutes before either one of us spoke again.
"Did your girlfriend have something to do with it?"
"Yes, I guess that's your girlfriend. Is she the reason you killed him?"
I shook my head. "No, I don't really remember what happened. I don't remember anything that happened when I was in that state. Leena is the one who told me what I did."
"And she was there when he died."
"I guess so."
"He was supposed to go there and drop off some weapons. I guess those weapons were for you. If you were in this state, she was going to kill you… and then got my Alexander involved. Was Alison and James involved?"
"That's what I was told."
"So she, and Alexander got weapons to stop you, Alison, and James. You three were responsible for the clear-out in Illinois."
"That's what I was told."
"Wow…and I bet that selfish bitch only went to get you. It was 'fuck everyone else' huh? She didn't care about what happened to Alexander. As long as she gets you…everything was going to be hunky fucking dory."
She's unwrapping the pieces like they were a puzzle.
"Do not call her a bitch." I said.
"Why not? That's what she is."
"You don't even know her. You can't judge her."
"Christian, I can judge whoever I want to in my damn house. And I do not like that human."
"You never have to see her again."
"No, I'd like a little chat actually somewhere along the line."
"You're not going to eat her."
Svetlana smirked. "Maybe, maybe not."
"I love you, and you mean the world to me but I'll kill you before I let you touch her."
"You're more defensive about her than you are about vampires."
"I respect humans more."
"And I see that."
"Just a simple fact."
"It's a shame though, Christian. I told Alexander my race comes before him in my world. I told him that and he respected it. Your spoiled little bitch, however cannot respect the vampire race."
"That's because the vampire race constantly fucked her over."
"The vampire race or you, Christian?"
"You changed her life upside down. I'm guessing that since she got involved with you, her life has been one long, dangerous ride."
"I've got nothing to do with it."
"Oh please, you have everything to do with it. Right now, I don't know if I hate you or her more."
"Still going to kill me?" I asked.
She shrugged. "Either you or her. Really doesn't matter at the moment."
"It's not her fault. Don't bring her into it."
Svetlana shrugged. "We'll see. You're dismissed."
I stared at her.
I got to my feet and looked at her. "I'm sorry." I said again.
She gave a fake smile. "Save the apology for someone who gives a damn."
"Just kill me now instead holding a fucking grudge over me over something that was above my control."
She shook her had. "No, just go, Christian. I'll deal with you and your human later."
"What the hell does that mean?" I asked.
She just kept the fake smile on her face.
"Stay away from her." I said before turning, within a blink, I was shutting the gate to her house.
I stared out into the night and grabbed my phone out of my pocket.
"Hello?" I asked as I picked the phone up.
"Hey, how'd it go?"
"She threatened me. Well, the both of us, actually."
"But you're alive." I said nodding.
"Technically no but I'm okay."
"Good, so when are you coming back?"
"Is it day time there?"
I nodded. "Yeah, eight in the morning."
"I'll get there by three in the morning then, Leena."
"Okay, s'everything's okay?"
"I'm scared shitless but I'm okay."
"Well good then."
"What are you doing?" He asked.
"About to get in the shower."
"Eight in the morning?"
I shrugged and got out of bed. "Boredom. Until you get here. Hoping to break the walls ."
"And the bed."
Oh shit, he's getting me started.
He chuckled. "I'll see you later tonight."
I nodded. "Okay."
"I love you."
"Love you." He hung up before I did and I hung up afterwards.
I got up fully and made up my bed. I don't why. I never do this.
Someone knocked on my door downstairs and I looked at my phone.
Eight oh two in the morning and someone's knocking on my door. Fantastic.
I grabbed my robe and opened my door.
I ran down the stairs and looked out the window. It was Aiden.
It's been like…a day since I've seen him.
I unlocked and then opened the door.
He didn't have on a shirt. He stood in front of me with nothing but jeans on. No shoes. No shirt.
What the heck?
He looked at me like I was crazy and then narrowed his eyes. "Some of the most craziest shit happened to me in the woods last night." He said as he stepped in.
"I'm sure. The nonexistence of your shirt and shoes explains that."
"I saw this naked Latino chick turn into a dog."
I raised my eyebrow.
"Did you get drunk last night?" I asked.
He shook his head. "No. I somehow found my way into the woods. I ripped my shirt off but the crazy thing is, I don't remember doing it or even getting to the woods."
He nodded. "Hell yeah, and then this random naked chick appeared from no one and told me I was the new wolf everyone was talking about. Then, this girl had fucking fur coming out of her body. Starting with her back. Then her eyes disappeared and just became white."
"So you just saw a werewolf."
"I just saw my future, Phillips."
"A naked guy with fur coming out of his back."
He nodded. "Exactly. Who wants that?"
I shrugged. "I don't. Uh…how did you find out where I lived? You can't possibly know it by heart."
"I know. Your place was just here. It was weird."
"You're creeping me out with all the pre werewolf transition stuff."
"The naked Latino told me I might turn into a wolf before the next full moon."
"You didn't get her name?"
He looked at me like I was stupid. "I wouldn't be calling her the 'naked Latino' if I knew her name now would I?"
"Gosh, sorry. Hungry?"
"Sure, now that the creepy vampire isn't here, serve me, woman."
I rolled my eyes. "Christian's going to kick your ass once he hears you talking like that to me, keep talking."
Aiden rolled his eyes. "Should I be scared of that freak?"
"A little." I said.
He followed me into the kitchen.
"Your brother still on pissed mode?" He asked.
"He left early this morning. Along with the girl I used to consider my best friend."
"She has big ass eyes. Covering up half her face."
I laughed. "That's mean. But true."
He nodded. "Told you."
He sat up on the counter. His smile disappeared. "I'll do what they say no matter how much I don't want to." He said.
I looked at him. "What do you mean?"
"Your boyfriend and his queer best friend. When they said once I transform, I'll stay away."
I nodded. "That's probably best."
"I was thinking of going to see that guy that Remy was talking about."
"Remy is downstairs in the basement as we speak."
"I never knew you had a basement."
"You never knew a lot of things about me. But I can call him."
"If he's just downstairs, why can't you just go downstairs to him?" He asked.
I walked out the room without answering.
I ran upstairs and grabbed my phone. I dialed Remy's number and put the phone to my ear.
Remy picked up on the first ring.
"Yeah?" His voice sounded strained.
"You okay?' I asked as I walked downstairs.
"You didn't feed before you went down there?"
"I'm smart. If they're damn vampire hunters out there, I'm taking no risk."
"You could have fed from me." I said.
"No. No I couldn't have. Christian wouldn't like that."
My eyebrows furrowed. "You didn't have a problem with it before."
He didn't say anything.
"Yeah, yeah, I'm….still here."
"The guy you learned all the mythology stuff, who is he?"
"This smart guy. Human. He has millions of books and research papers and essays. This guy is fucking crazy. I don't think I want you going to see him."
"Aiden's coming with me."
"Oh yeah, I thought I heard a loud ass voice . Tell him to go fuck himself."
Aiden looked at me. "Tell him I said his mother."
"Uh…you heard that?" I asked in the phone.
"Yeah I heard that bastard. Anyway, his address is 4956 Salaam street. It's the only house on that street. He's a crazy person. I'm telling you. I suggest you take the gun just in case."
"Okay. Thank you."
I'm not doing that.
"Your welcome. Bring me a human back."
"You must be kidding."
I rolled my eyes and shut the phone off.
"We're going to go on a little trip today."
"To the guy's house?"
I nodded. "Pancakes or French toast?
The street was much more scarier than I imagined.
Something about it screamed danger. The sky was a dark gray and it began to rain really hard.
But I could still see out of the window.
"Talk about creepy." Aiden muttered.
I looked over at him and it made me feel better. Not only because I knew that he may possibly protect me if I needed it, but also out of amusement. His shirt was gone and none of Nick's shirts were here so he was wearing one of mine.
He glanced at me. "Stop it."
"I didn't say anything."
"You're about to laugh."
"It's your fault for ripping your own shirt."
"For the last time, Phillips, I don't remember doing it."
I risked another glance and laughed of the tightness of it against his tan skin and it suddenly made me frown. He has nice muscles. What the hell am I saying?
"Want to touch them?" He asked.
I raised my eyebrow. "Touch. What?" I said slowly.
"Can you at least attempt to stay out of my head?"
"I've tried but I'm also trying not to, it's interesting….the way you think is really….r rated."
"It is not." I said.
He rolled his eyes. "Just touch my muscle." He said smirking.
"Christian would kill me."
"Christian doesn't have to know."
I sighed. "Just once."
He shrugged. "Once." He mouthed.
I rolled my eyes and lifted my hand and touched his arm.
Gosh, packed with meat. And beyond a million degrees.
I took my hand away. "Beefy, dude." I said.
He shook his head.
I got out of the car and shut the door.
I heard the door close on the other side and looked at Aiden as he came over to me with the small white shirt on.
It hardly covered the top of his pants.
"Can I please take a picture of you and put it on 'Facebook'?" I asked.
He glared at me. "I'll kill you if you do it."
"Just one." I begged.
Aiden shook his head.
I watched him as the rain poured down on him letting it cling onto his body.
It was cold and it was making me shiver.
"You're not cold?" I asked.
He shook his head. "Nope, I'm warm actually. The rain feels good."
I nodded and looked at the dark gray house on the end of the street. "Don't think I'm scared, but…."
I nodded. "Yeah."
He shrugged. "Hey, you save my life….sorta….its time to return the favor. If something happens, I got you covered."
"Thanks. Your asshole attitude has gone down."
His eyebrows pulled together. "Yeah, which is odd."
We both glanced at the house and then at each other at the same time.
"Ready?" He asked.
I slowly nodded.
He started walking first and I followed behind.
I was doing this for him.
Why? I don't remember why.
We neared the house and walked onto the broken stairs that lead to the door.
Aiden looked at me. "Knock."
"You knock. We're here for you." He rolled his eyes and opened the screen door and knocked hard against the door.
There was a sudden banging sound that made my heart beat fast. Both me and Aiden stepped back.
"What the fuck?" He asked.
The door forced open and a man stepped out.
He had curly black hair on top of his head and a beard around his mouth and chin.
He had to be fifty.
He narrowed his eyes at the both of us. "What do you want?" He asked in the sharpest tone.
I looked to Aiden who stepped back.
"Uh…we're friends with Remy." I said.
The man's expression changed. "Remy, you say?"
He studied me and then Aiden.
He pointed to Aiden. "He isn't."
"How did you know that?"
"You can tell. Remy wouldn't be friends with anyone with a shirt so small."
Aiden glared at him. "I wish the both of you will leave my shirt alone. Okay? This is hers because I ripped mine."
He pursed his lips. "I can give you a shirt, boy." He used his finger to motion us inside.
Aiden walked in first and I walked in next and shut the door. The house gave off a dark vibe.
The man ran upstairs and we followed him.
Through the hallway and to a door.
"Wait out here." He said. He opened the door and slammed it shut.
I looked to Aiden.
I smiled. "I'm not going to."
He scoffed. He lifted the shirt up and tried to take it off and it got stuck over his head.
"Fuck, shit, damn." He mumbled.
I laughed at him.
"Stop laughing. Help me."
"Wait." I got my phone out and got my camera on.
"Hey, you're too quiet. You better not be taking a picture of me."
"I'm not." I said as I stepped back to get a good angle. I took the picture and Aiden heard the camera go off. I laughed and placed it back in my pocket.
"Come on, let me help you." I said. I dropped my purse and grabbed the shirt from the tiny v neck line and tried to pull it up. "Your head is big."
"Shut up." He said.
I giggled and tried to pull it off.
"We'll just cut the motherfucker up."
I shook my head. "No. I like this shirt."
"It sure as hell don't like me. Get this damn thing off."
"Okay, okay. Relax. Don't move." I said.
I grabbed the shirt from the bottom and pulled it hard over his head.
"Ow. Shit, be careful." He said.
"I'm not fucking moving."
I finally was able to pull it off.
"Goddamn." He said and sighed in relief.
I giggled and stuffed the shirt in my purse and then looked at him.
His abs were perfect and tan.
He stared at me and I bit my lip.
The door opened and Alton came back out with a gray shirt.
He looked back and forth between us. Then he looked to Aiden. "Here." Aiden took the shirt and pulled it on.
He looked better in this shirt.
Alton narrowed his eyes as he continued to look back and forth between us. "Are you two…mates?" He asked.
I shook my head.
Aiden did too.
"We're friends. I'm seeing a vampire….actually."
He raised his eyebrow. "Are you seeing Remy?"
I shook my head. "Christian." I said.
Alton looked shocked. "Christian Monroe……Interesting." He said and he looked deep in thought for a second.
Me and Aiden waited in silence.
Alton then looked at the both of us. "So what brings the both of you here today?" He asked.
"We were hoping you could give us information."
Alton's eyebrows furrowed. "There are no-"
"Bullshit." Aiden said.
"Why do you want to know about them?" He asked.
I looked to Aiden.
Alton too looked at him. "You're a werewolf?"
Aiden shook his head. "Transitioning. I'm in retarded ass phase two right now."
Alton scoffed. "If you don't like phase two, you're sure as hell not going to like phase three." He walked down the hall. He looked back at us. "Well come on."
Me and Aiden followed him and we went downstairs, he led us through the dark house and to a black wooden door.
He opened it and we walked in. It had stacks of papers and books covering the room.
Like a library.
"Shit, what do you do for living?" Aiden asked as he studied the place.
Alton went to the dark green couch in the middle of the room. He grabbed a black book from the couch and threw it to Aiden who caught it seconds before it could hit the ground.
"I study mythology for living. Do researches and things like that."
"Are all mythological things real?" I asked.
Alton shook his head. "No."
Aiden began flipping through the pages of the book.
Alton grabbed another pale book and gave it to Aiden. Aiden held it in his hand while still flipping through pages.
"Is the loch ness monster real?" I asked.
Alton shrugged. "You know, that's a legend actually. I believe that before life was on earth, there were dinosaurs and one of them might have evolved and grew fins and the ability to live in water. So I believe the loch ness monster is real and may be an ancient dinosaur. And has also given birth to create more. But this is just a myth."
I looked at all the books and suddenly grew a fascination. "Shape shifters?" I asked.
Alton nodded. "Real. I have only one book about them. My other books disappeared."
"Can I borrow the book? I've just grown an interest."
"Bring it back. It's important." He said.
I nodded. "I will."
Alton sighed and went to a cherry wood shelf and brought out a thick book that didn't have a cover.
He gave it to me and I held it in my arms and looked to Aiden. "Ready?"
He nodded. "Yes."
I looked at Alton. "Thank you, sir."
"Tell Remy I said 'hi'."
"Thank you." He nodded and Aiden quietly followed behind me.
We made our way out of the house and got back out the porch.
Alton watched us as we walked out and got back into the car.
"That dude scares me."
Aiden said as we got into the car. "Yeah, but he seems smart."
We drove back to my house and I started making lunch as Aiden was sitting at the table looking at the book.
I made some Chicken alfredo.
"Listen to this," Aiden said. "In between transition, werewolves have increased anger and sex drive and are often dangerous to be around even in human form." He said reading from the book.
"Do you have anger?" I asked as I placed some alfredo on a plate for him.
He shook his head and looked up at me. "Not really. Sex drive has been up though."
"Hmm." I placed his plate in front of him and grabbed my plate and sat down with him.
"What else?" I asked.
Aiden's eyes moved as he continued reading. "Some werewolves even have the features and powers as vampires."
He nodded. "I don't want to be a dead furry freak."
I giggled. "You'll do fine."
Aiden scoffed. "Easy for you to say, you're human."
