Chapter 11: Transitioning
"We are aware of the recent discovery and it has still be in question of what to do about the creatures," The Governor, Richard Lynn Scott, said.
"But there has been alternative decisions made to keep our state under protection. There have been volunteers willing to put themselves at risk for the problem and decides to solve the problem, exclusively."
"What the hell are they talking about?" I asked Remy as I turned away from the TV.
He leaned forward and shook his head. "Volunteer vampire hunters." He answered.
I raised my eyebrow. "Excuse me?"
"We're fucking dead, Leena. We're not wanted here. Some people are fucking idiots enough to put themselves in danger to get rid of us."
"How is someone just going to become a vampire hunter out of nowhere?"
Remy shrugged. "But you can tell the damn government has another fucking plan. Just don't know what it is yet."
"So what, now vampires are gonna have to watch out for vampire hunters?"
"Looks like it."
"Well that's just…that sucks."
"Tell me about it." Remy said rolling his eyes.
It was Monday night and after a long day of work, I sat at home with Remy and we watched the TV. The government claims that they intend to get rid of the 'vampire' problem. How will they do that? They can't expect the vampire hunters to be enough.
I heard there are hundreds maybe even thousands of vampires around the world.
My phone vibrated on the coffee table and I grabbed it.
I looked at it and I already knew who it was.
I slid it across and placed it to my ear. "Hey, you okay?" I asked.
"Well obviously my head isn't ripped off yet."
I smiled. "I know. That's good news. Are you even there yet?"
"Oh, I've been here. Just want to live a little longer. I'm in a hotel."
"Ain't it like daytime in Russia right now?"
"Ten A.M. but this hotel is special."
"Is it a vampire hotel?"
"You can say that. No windows in the room and room service is pretty good."
"Room service huh, what, do you get a human delivered to your room?" I asked sarcastically.
The other line went silent.
I felt a faint stab of jealousy. "Interesting." I muttered.
"I just feed from them. Okay? Nothing else. Not one of these girls are as beautiful as you are. I don't enjoy being around them like I do with you."
"Hmm….I heard that before."
Christian chuckled. "If I cheated on you, I'd have no problem telling you to your face."
"I swear to you. Want me to go into detail on how I feed on these humans?"
"Are they girls?"
"All of them?"
"I'm not so keen on feeding on guys. It's not a turn on."
"Oh, so a turn on is what you're looking for."
"That's what it feels like whenever we feed. We get really aroused."
"Well for me, when I'm feeding on a female."
"I wish it was me instead of those girls."
"You're the only one in my heart, you know that."
I blushed and couldn't help but smile.
"So…about what I said before I left…"
"Yeah the uh…the marriage thing."
"Did you think about it?" He asked.
I hesitated. I thought about it. "Yeah. Can you just tell me why you want to marry me? We haven't known each other long at all."
"I'm the last person on earth who likes to rush into things but when I got back from being….dark, I realized that I'd kill myself before I'd ever leave you again. I need you more than anything. More than I thought I'd ever need a human. Hell, you make me feel human and that's all I ever wanted since my 162 years."
"I really make you feel that way?"
"That way and more."
I blush again. Damnit I wish he was here. I need another fuck session.
"Can you read my thoughts through the phone?" I asked.
He chuckled. "No, sweetheart."
"I hate when people know they're bad liars and try to lie anyway."
I sighed. "I was just thinking about how bad I want you here with me right now."
"I want you, too."
Phone sex with a vampire. Sounds fucking hot to me.
Remy stared at me with a disgusted look on his face.
"You should see Remy's face."
Christian sighed. "Let me speak to him."
I held the phone out to Remy and he grabbed it.
He put the phone to his ear. "Yeah?" He asked.
Then he nodded. "Yeah, uh, the fucking government is talking about hiring fucking vampire hunters."
He paused again and glanced at me.
Then he nodded. "Yeah, if she doesn't mind but-" Christian stop him mid sentence.
Remy glanced at me again. "No, he hasn't come around. Hopefully, if he's smart, he'd keep it that way."
They must be talking about Aiden.
Why couldn't Christian ask me about him?
"Sure. Yeah, she's been fine. Call when you're done talking to the hot Russian."
"Want to talk back to-" He gave the phone back to me without finishing his question.
"You're back." I said.
"So I am. So was that reason enough for me to want to marry you?"
"I didn't know vampires could get married."
"There's a lot you don't know and even if we couldn't, you'd know I'd make it happen anyway."
"Oh so dangerous and romantic." I said.
He paused. "So yes or no?"
"I think I'm gonna say yes."
"You think? That's not a good answer."
"Do I have to decide right now?"
"I could easily die tonight so yes."
I sighed. "I guess you've got yourself a fiancée."
I could almost hear his smile on the other line.
"Happy?" I asked.
"Me too." I admitted. This happy feeling of butterflies immediately entered my stomach.
"Twenty carats enough?" He asked.
I didn't answer.
"Christian if you think I'm going to let you buy me a twenty carat diamond engagement ring, you must have some blood stuck in your brain."
"This conversation is odd. For a vampire…I mean."
"You started it." I said innocently.
"Twenty carats no less."
"Don't play with me."
"Okay, will fifteen do?"
I stayed quiet.
"Agree to ten or there's no ring at all."
"Fine, no ring." I said smiling.
"Damnit," he muttered. "Okay, what would you prefer?"
"It doesn't matter the size of the diamond or how expensive. Okay?"
"See? Only humans have this talk. That's why I'm marrying you."
"And because of the good sex."
He sighed. "Miss fucking cocky."
"I'm going to let you get back to what you were doing."
"Okay, I love you."
"I love you too, Leena."
I nodded and kept those words with me.
I slid the phone down and placed the phone back onto the table and looked to Remy.
"What do you have against Aiden?" I asked.
Remy closed his eyes and sighed. "For the last time, Leena, he's dangerous."
"And you aren't?"
"I can control the shit. I've been near you for months and I can control myself.
However, Adrianne or what the fuck ever his name is, he's just now aware of what he's about to turn into and the pressure is going to catch up and his temper is going to be very vicious. I already told you they don't remember the shit in wolf form that they do in human form. They see everything as a threat apart from their wolf pack. And Christian will kill me if I don't protect you."
"I can protect myself though. I think you and him underestimate me."
"Just a reflex. You're weaker than us so…."
I heard footsteps come down and it was Nick and Kindle. Me and Nick hadn't talked since yesterday.
Kindle smiled at Remy. "Hey."
"Um…hey." Remy said furrowing his eyebrows.
Nick leaned over and whispered something in her ear that made her face expression change.
She looked at him again and slowly backed away. "Oh."
Remy sighed and closed his eyes. "I fucking hate humans." He muttered.
Kindle slowly let go of Nick's arm and backed away.
"He's not gonna hurt you." I said.
Kindle backed into the wall with her eyes wide and alert as she looked at Remy.
"Kindle, listen to me. Remy is my friend. Okay? I trust him. He's not going to hurt me, you, or Nick."
Nick turned to look at her. "You can go upstairs if you're scared."
Kindle nodded and slowly turned.
"You do know I can easily be up there milliseconds before you get there, honey." Remy said toying with her.
I actually heard her gulp.
Nick glared at Remy.
He was just kidding with her, Jesus. Calm down.
Kindle quickly dashed upstairs.
Nick kept his eyes on Remy. "Do not mess with my girlfriend."
Remy shrugged. "Trust me, I don't want that. Keep it."
Nick looked to me. "Can we talk?"
I'm sick of people asking me that question.
"Sure." I said and walked into the kitchen to get dinner ready.
Nick followed me into the kitchen and sat down in the chair.
"What do you want to talk about?" I asked as I got a pack of chicken out of the refrigerator.
"I'm sorry for what I said yesterday."
"No its fine, you have your opinion and I have mine."
"I just get worried okay. Can you blame me?"
I shook my head and place the pack of chicken on the counter. "No, but you know what's crazy, Nick? Although vampires can kill a human within a second, humans can do the same thing. They're not so different from us."
"They're dead walkers." He said. How he said the sentence gave me chills.
I just stared at him. "And we're live walkers."
He shrugged. "No, we're human."
"I don't care what you say."
"And maybe that's the damn problem, Leena."
I ripped the pack of chicken open and then looked back at him. "Well there's something that you should know." I said.
Nick sighed. "What is it now?"
"Christian proposed to me." I said.
I slowly looked back at him.
I never seen so much anger on a human being's face before.
"He did what?" He asked in a low voice.
"Well what did you say?"
"What the hell do you think I said?"
Nick shook his head. "Great, I'm gonna have a fucking dead man as a goddamn brother in law. Fuck!"
"Nick, I told you because you're in this family and you deserve to know. Not so you can get fucking mad at it. You don't have to be in it if it pisses you off that much."
Nick glared at me. "Fuck it then." He said.
He got up from his chair and disappeared into the living room.
I was really irritated right now and I knew it was because Nick wouldn't accept Christian at any cost. And it killed me because I love them both…almost to death.
Remy appears into the kitchen and watches me. He obviously sees my anger and sits down.
I shut my eyes.
I could easily be in worst situations than this.
I missed Christian and just wish he and Nick were both here with me and loved me enough to work whatever the damn feud is out.
Remy sighed and came over to me. "You okay?"
I nodded. "Just tired. Fuck it, everyone's on their own for dinner tonight. I'm going to bed."
I decided to just pack the chicken up in little plastic bags and placed them back into the refrigerator tonight.
I ripped my shirt from my body. It was odd how easily it tore.
I felt hot. Almost like the sun hot.
I shut my eyes.
With what I knew was going to happen in a couple weeks, I didn't know how the hell to get prepared for something like that. No one knew could know about this.
No one at all. None of my friends. Or my family.
Not that I had much of either.
I walked aimlessly through the woods, enjoying the feel of the leave beneath my toes.
I didn't even feel like myself.
I felt like a completely different person.
This wasn't me.
With what I know, this will change my life forever.
Nothing about me will be normal with the secret I have now.
I could feel myself changing internally as well as on the outside.
It was hard to explain but things around seem brighter…..seem to open up more.
I guess my way of looking at things is changing also.
I felt the heat coming off my body but I also felt it inside, making my insides and my muscles hurt.
Like flames licking my body throughout and on the inside.
What the hell was I supposed to do about it?
I couldn't do shit. Just let it take me?
Let the lycanthropy take me completely? Will it ever take me back to normalcy afterward?
I doubt it.
But I can try.
At this moment for some reason, I think I wanted to see Leena. But its night time. So I know her creepy boyfriend will be there fucking her.
I think the bastard will break her soon.
But for some reason, I felt a little….defensive over her.
I didn't like her.
I just didn't want anyone to hurt her.
Hey, she's been good to me although I've been treating her like she's nothing.
I mean…I guess we're friends.
I looked down at my chest. What the fuck?
My shirt? Where did it go?
I looked back and saw it a few feet back.
I did that?
Damn. It's all fucking ripped.
I looked all around me and suddenly felt slightly claustrophobic being surrounded by darkness like this.
I forgot the way to her house.
I felt like being near her. Just to talk about this moment. Because I know that she'd listen. Although I've been rude to her, she'd still listen to me because from the short time of knowing her, I knew that's the kind of person she is.
I could tell.
Damnit….not a damn phone. I don't have anything.
Guess I'll wait until I can see in the morning to talk to her.
"Hey, you." Said a high voice.
I turned and saw a naked girl.
"Whoa." But I just stared at her. She had a nice figure, why would I cover my eyes?
"Like what you see?" She asked.
"A little." I admitted.
She gave me a small smile. I can tell she was a Latino. I guess with the long darkness and silkiness of her hair as it laid across one shoulder down to her breast.
"What's your name?"
"Aiden. Why are you naked?"
"Ah, you're the new wolf everyone is talking about."
New wolf? Everyone talking about? Everyone knows?
"Yes." She said. She read my…..
"Who in particular?"
"Wait, you're a wolf too?"
She nodded. "Turned into one when I was sixteen. My parents thought I needed an anger management class. Boy did they not know what was coming." She smiled softly then shrugged. "Anyway, you might turn sooner then the next full moon."
"What makes you say that….naked lady?"
She chuckled. "You seem to be….irritated right now."
"I'm turned on….not irritated."
She raised her eyebrow.
Maybe a little irritated I don't know where Leena lives.
It actually…..inflames me that I don't know. What if I need to tell her something important?
"Whose Leena?" She asked.
I shook my head. "Friend."
The Latino frowned. "You can't be around humans."
"Uh, yes the hell I can."
"Not in wolf form. It's dangerous. I mistakenly killed my sister when I was in transition."
I shrugged. "Yeah, me and you are different. I still don't know why you're naked, either."
"Have you ever seen a werewolf wearing clothes, prick?"
"I hope I'd never see that."
"Oh…" she nodded. "You're one of those in-denial wolves."
I nodded. "Yeah, that's me. I know the shit is going to happen but still…it's crazy."
She nodded. "Yeah, but when you're a wolf….everything is different. More heightened…crazy….ferocious. Everything is your prey when you're a wolf."
Everything? "Including humans?"
She nodded and stepped closer to me. "Humans, vampires, shape shifters."
Shape shifters? What the fuck?
"The people who can skin walk."
"Turn into other people. That's what shape shifters are."
My eyes widened. Just when I thought this world and situation couldn't get any damn crazier, I'm learning that there is actually people who can change into another person.
"I need to have a damn seat….this is just…" I shook my head and sat down on the ground.
The Latino came over to me and sat down and crossed her legs beside me.
"I'm lovin the fact that you're naked right now, but this is uncomfortable as fuck while I'm tryin to figure shit out."
"Maybe I can help you." She said shrugging.
"You don't understand what I need to figure out though. I don't want to be this evil dog and then this odd human with a huge secret. I didn't sign up for that shit."
"Well its in your blood, don't blame me, blame your bloodline."
Fuck you and my bloodline.
"I heard that."
I know you did.
She stood up to her feet and sighed. "Want to meet the pack?"
"Nothing good can come out that at this moment."
She shrugged. "Suit yourself, pup. I guess I'll see you when you turn."
The Latino gracefully turned and walked a few steps before she looked over her shoulder and gave me a wicked smile.
She turned back and her back arched and she threw her head back and groaned.
My eyes widened as I saw black fur sprouting from her body starting with her back.
She dropped down to the ground and moaned something that turned into a howl as she developed the back feet.
Am I high?
Her fur spread all over her body and she was a fully grown……oh shit.
She turned and her eyes were nothing but white. Not even there. No pupils. I could have sworn she smiled.
Then she leaped off, blending in with the darkness as she went.
Okay, of all the scary things I've ever witnessed which was nothing, this one took the motherfucking cake.
I just sat there completely confused. That's going to happen to me.
But at least this taught me we can change at any moment. We just have to will it.
But her changing like that, and her eyes…..I never want to witness something like that again.
And I hope that no one ever witness me changing.
