Chapter 1

The big mansion was intimidating, there were three cars parked in the big driveway, those cars cost more than my house. I got out of my car and shut the door, I didn't want to go in, I had no idea how she was going to react, the last time I saw her I was eight years old, ten years was a long time and I didn't know if she would want to see me.

I sighed and walked to the door, if I kept thinking about it I would just get back in my car and leave. I raised my hand to knock, but the door opened before I made contact a woman stood there with a surprise look on her face; she seemed to be in her late fifties or earlier sixties and was dressed very elegantly.

"Can I help you?" her voice was soft and kind, she seemed to be a nice person, she frowned "Are you ok?"

"Yes, I'm sorry" I smiled nervously at her, this was it, I had to say something "I'm looking for Lora Clark"

"She is busy right now" great I came all this way for nothing. The lady gave me a kind smile "but you are welcome to wait"

"Thank you" she must have heard the relief in my voice because she stood aside and let me in.

The house was even more intimidating in the inside, I felt like I was in a museum. I used to think that living in one of this houses was like living in a castle, like a fairytale, but it just felt cold, there was no warmth no sense of family.

"Would you like something to drink?"

"No thank you"

"I'm Agatha"

"I'm Chloe" I was very nervous, but she was being very nice, so I had to be polite "Is very nice to meet you"

"You have such a darling accent" she waved me to sit down and she sat down beside me "Where are you from?"

"I'm from Avalon, Georgia"

"I knew there was a southern accent in there" she patted my hand and I decided that I really like her, she seemed genuinely nice and on some degree it comforted me "What brings you to Venice?"

I wasn't so sure that telling this woman why I drove nine hours to a small town in Florida that I've never heard about until two months ago was a good idea, she seemed nice and everything, but I needed to speak to Lora first, after that I'll decide what to do.

Before I could answer another woman walked into the living room. She stopped when she saw me and looked at the lady sitting beside me.

"Who is she?"

"Her name is Chloe" the other's woman eyes widened and I knew she remembered me, she looked really nervous; she kept looking between Agatha and me "she came to see you Lora. I was just keeping her company until you were available to see her"

"Thank you, I'll take it from here" she smiled at me, but I could tell it was forced "Follow me, we can talk in my study, no one will interrupt us there"

More like no one will hear us. I followed her, mostly because I didn't have any other choice. As soon as we walked into the study she closed and locked the door. When she finally looked at me I didn't like the way she was doing it.

"What are you doing here?"

I knew she wasn't going to be happy to see me, but I didn't expect this either. She looked pissed off and that was made me mad, the situation we were in wasn't my fault.

"Well, is nice to see you too. Mother"
