Bain rolled over, her sleep disturbed. She frowned as her eyes blinked open. It was almost the full moon, and they had changed camps twice since she and Ty had spotted Claire. They were deep in the mountains this time, a mining town was about a couple thousand feet below their camp. They were camped next to an icy river, with a fire outside, and three space heaters inside the tent. Missy was flopped under an electric blanket at their feet on the mound of cushions and pillows. Ty's muscular arm was wrapped protectively around her waist. What had woken her up?

She sat up and yanked on a second sweater and slid her warm feet into cold boots. With the new winter coat to cover her she walked to the tent's flap door. She looked out and saw a man outside next to a fully stoked fire. He looked up, long spiked hair pulled back from his face, just the barest of locks hung to one side. He smiled upon seeing her, and stood. "Evening love." He greeted.

"Who are you?!" She jereked back into the tent moving to shake Ty and Missy awake.

"It's no use they're asleep while I'm here." The man spoke.

She looked up in shock as she saw the man inside the tent next to Missy. He ran his fingers across her ears. She watched his expression turn pained but filled with relief. He looked up to her and smiled, "Come, I have much to tell you." He stroked Missy one last time before exiting the tent.

She shook Ty one last time before sighing. She walked out of the tent and glared at the man. "Who are you?" She growled.

"The Demon Wolf." He smiled. "I've not seen you in a long time Mystic Wolf Bain."

"How do you know me?" She growled.

"Everyone knows you my dear." He looked up at the sky. "I was sent by the Moon Goddess to find you. Claire is coming for you hard. And you dont remember exactly why you must kill her."

"What dont I know?" She asked. The Demon Wolf walked closer to her and touched her head with his hand. She cried out as the sensation of her getting sucked into a memory threw her back. He caught her and lowered her to the cold ground.

"Remember my sweet, only you can free yourself. Only you can fight her." The Demon Wolf spoke. "Remember and wake up."

"Bain wake up!" A female voice cut into Bain's ears. She blinked her eyes open to see her mother before her. Long white hair piled up beneath a red head scarf. Her maid's dress was black and an apron was tied about her waist. She huffed as she sat back. "Really, sleeping on the job." She wagged her finger, her soft face and blue eyes twinkling with mirth. Well the old keep was boring. Bain checked her own head scarf of blue to assure herself it was in place. They didnt need anyone seeingher mothers white hair and Bain's dual colored hair. A witch hunt would start.

She stood and brushed off the dust that came off of her cleaning rag while she had napped. She looked around and smiled when she noted no one had seen her. "Come now, spending all night out with Ty again. It's beginning to show." Her mother chided good naturedly.

"Well, we are mates." Bain grinned.

"I understand." Her mother nodded. Since Bain had last caught her mate with Claire at the ball they had made up after weeks of his apologies. He couldnt ignore the invitation of the daughter of the man who emplyed his skills. Lord Bastian had come to take residence in the keep and retain lordship of the villages people. His daughter Claire had been the unfortunate tag along. Bain had had enough of the spiteful little whore. Hanging all over Bain's mate. That was a capital offense in Bain's mind. She followed her mother down to the washing room and they joined the other maids who were boiling the sheets. She settled in to placing the linen in the water, to save the other women their skin. Bain was a werewolf, she could heal from the heat.

She listened to their gossip and watched as her mother took up sorting the sheets for the other women. Suddenly they all looked up and Bain's eyes widened as Lord Bastian himself waltzed into the wash room. His eyes were all for Bain's mother. She watched hr mother set her jaw in annoyance, but she smiled and greeted their employer.

"Good heavens." The woman beside Bain whispered. "Your sister is in troubel my dear, the ladies of the town will be beside themselves when they see our Missy talking to the Lord himself."

That was the rule, Bain and her mother looked close in age though centuries seperated them. The people in town assumed she and her sister lived together with her sisters husband and their brother. But truth was Bain and her brother were the product of their mothers union with her mate 175 years ago. She winced as she saw Lord Bastian lay a kiss on her mothers hand. She'd better wash that, if her father caught a whiff of any man on his mate he'd slaughter the town. Right after Lord bastian left her mother came over and dunked her hand in the water. For her mother, the touch of any man that wasnt her family or her mate was regarded with disgust. Satisifed she'd boiled oll evidence her mother went back to work.

Bain lifted a sheet and gasped as she saw blood. "We'll someone isnt a maiden anymore." She giggled as a few other women giggled scandilously. Then Bain smelled the sheet in passing, she froze as she smelled Claire, the blood was hers. But the male... it wa Ty! Bain shrieked and dropped the sheet in revulsion. She stumbled back as tears streaked down her cheeks. He'd lain with another... her beloved had bedded Claire!
